We Are ODST (http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/852871/bungie-project-2/videos/haloodst_liveaction_trl_090409.html).
That, is, all.

Yup, sold now. One of the better trailers I have seen.

That was a slick commercial. I am not a Halo fan but that turned my head.

Wow, I'm seriously impressed with that. Love the effect on the helmet shield. Definite thumbs up on that trailer.

I liked it, but the thing that bothers me is that Halo is a very clean looking game, with bright colors, while this commercial is dark and grungy with lots of smoke everywhere... like the Gears of War or Killzone series.

That's probably the best ad for a videogame I've ever seen.

Not sure how a live action trailer could sell you on a video-game, but it was a very good commercial.

Easily the best video game trailer I've ever seen, and better than most all movie trailers too. Awesome, simply awesome. Now where is that Halo feature film?

Not everyone in the USNC speaks English. It's more of a united nations type-thing.

I just saw the official gameplay trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1hqTzTduf0) as well.
I really haven't paid much attention to Halo:ODST as it was pretty much a must buy for me anyway. Holy crap though, this looks good. Like it will be better than Halo 1, 2 and 3.
The list of voice actors in the game... Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, and Tricia Helfer is pretty good.
Oh, and here's a more HD version of the one from IGN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH40M6OeJcM)

Commercial reminds me a lot of the memorial commercials that they did for Halo 3. I'm sure that they wanted to keep with the same theme, seeing as how it is an expansion to the same game...
Srsly, I can't wait...

The exact same thing I was wondering. If the game looked like that, maybe that commercial could have sold me. It just showed me a short film could be cool.
Gamewise I am still not sold.

I think it is an invented language... so to make the trailer a bit more SF and to make it useful all over the planet. It is obviously Celtic inspired ;)

Good lord that was badass. I was iffy on a Halo movie but if it looks like that, I'm all up for it.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/876-District-9 great review. So yes while it is not a HALO movie. Producer Peter Jackson planned to produce a film adaptation of the Halo video games with Neill Blomkamp to direct the film. When the adaptation was placed on hold due to lack of financing, Jackson and Blomkamp discussed alternate projects to pursue and chose to film District 9 as producer and director. ...its the closest you'll see from these guys.

The director if this is "Rupert Sanders, who also worked on the Halo 3: Believe campaign".
Here's the transcript, said to be modified russian (but I guess Hungarian maybe as others have pointed out? The Song's apparently Gaelic.
(translated from Russian) {The video starts at Stark's funeral proceedings. Tarkov is seen in the background.}
UNSC Officer: Present arms!
{Marines raised their assault rifles.}
UNSC Officer: Fire!
{The video then skips to Tarkov who apparently joined the ODST, having his head shaven by an officer. The video then skips to a scene where a group of men stood in a file. The UNSC Officer yells in front of Tarkov.}
UNSC Officer: "We are ODSTs!"
{The scene changes to an obstacle course. Tarkov performs a commando crawl and a UNSC Officer follows him, yelling.}
UNSC Officer: "Do you want to die? Do you! Faster! Go go go!"
{As Tarkov took a dive in the obstacle course, the scene changes to him being dropped into an unknown planet. Several HEVs are seen. As soon as he hit the ground, his HEV's chute opened. Tarkov along with several other ODSTs fire their SMGs. A Brute Minor knocked Tarkov to the ground, knocking his helmet off. The Brute growls at him and soon after died after a Banshee struck down by a rocket hit the Brute from behind. Tarkov, lying on the mud, stared at the open space. The scene changes to a funeral proceeding with Tarkov, now looking older, along with several other ODSTs standing beside him. A song sung in Gaelic fills the background.}
The Song sung in Gaelic: "And my army of brothers went over the hilltops, drenched in blood we may be... but fighting is all left to me... Together with my army of brothers... down we fall... darkness in all... through hell!"
What surprises me most in the halo wiki article (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Unnamed_Halo_3:_ODST_short) is that this might be part of a larger short movie, perhaps from the Halo:Legends collection.

It's pretty pathetic that the 'how does this ad sell you on the game' fools come into this thread like we haven't been seeing gameplay videos of ODST for the past 3 weeks.

Well, maybe they weren't before and a good ad pushed them over the top. But pretending people are making their decision solely on the commercial is just an excuse for the endless internet "wit proving ground" to open up where snide and snarky comments earn posters props.

While I agree with you, I have to say you may be reaching a bit. The trailer is markedly superior to the actual gameplay; a chasm separates the two. *The trailer: superlative. *The in game (30 minute) footage: mediocre, bland and repetitive.

Shades of Normandy beach in there. Although, the grunt just roaring seemed silly. Any who buys the game on the basis of a live action trailer... dude.

The reason the live action could sell you is, one, because the game already looked pretty good, and, two,because there are parts from the spoiler release that have been recreated from thegame in live action, and they made it look incredible. So it gives that realistic aspect to the game. Also, if they are putting that much passion into the trailers, it makes me feel that they have done the same feel to the game, so I want to play it!

It's just emotional manipulation tied to a product. It's the equivalent of beer commercials that show a dude drinking Bud with tons of hot girls around him. There's no connection between the two in reality. The trailer pumps you up, sure, but you're not gonna feel that same way playing the game. Although, our kids, kids will probably play games that look -exactly- like that trailer, so maybe they will feel the same way :P

The PR people said that the full 2+ minute version will be available on the 8th.
that was sick as hell. give me a halo movie with this much realism and you got a smash hit.
too bad the actual game is nothing like this.

You should really be the one making the movie, being the number one fan and all. You can call it, "Halo: Zeal" about a dude who was frozen in the 21st century, then thawed out shortly after the events of the first Halo in order to teach MC a thing or two about squad and individual combat with alien hordes :P It's a skeleton plot, but it will do.

Do you remember when the Killzone bullshot-videos came out, shortly before the PS3 launched, and people thought they'd be playing just like that, just like this clip, nearly. So gullible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL73Yf14WQY
Though the video doesn't represent what the actual game is like, it does amp me up to buy the game, which is what it was intended to do, so in that, it is successful. I was likely going to buy it before, but I was thinking I'd probably wait until it dropped in price. Now, I may go get it on day one.
So yeah, the advertising worked on me, because I love the Halo universe, and that sort of stuff is fan service for people like me who will love more Halo, no matter what form it comes in (you know, aside from like, a cart racer).
Yeah, I'm a little sick of the milking, but thanks to the incredibly ferocity of this behemoth that is the Halo phenomenon, we've gotten Halo Wars, the original concept of Halo fully realized (granted, it wasn't great, but still). We got a full trilogy of Master Chief games, and we're getting an extra look into the universe here ala a Blue Shift expansion that they are claiming is worth full price.
Finally, you've got Halo: Reach, a game that I never thought would ever get made, because for a long time, they wouldn't acknowledge that Eric Nylund's fantastic novel was cannon with the rest of the games. I honestly hope they stick to the book, as it had dozens of epic battles, both on the ground and in space, and there were LOTS of Spartans, so the potential for some squad based fun is definitely there (and it would actually make sense, unlike the past games).
I always wondered why they didn't make the other 3 co-op characters in vanilla Halo 3 the ODSTs. Then it would have made a lot of sense to have an expansion where they are on their own. The elite thing was weird.

Watch the leaked gameplay before you waste your money. It's boring rehashed shit.

I watched some of it, and what I saw looked like fun.
So, I guess I'm the asshole for wanting to buy it?
Go figure.
