Sony has updated the official Playstation.Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/09/update-on-ps3-firmware-3-00/) with word that they are aware of the issues people are having with the Firemware 3.0 update.
SCEA is aware of reports that PS3 owners are experiencing isolated issues with their PS3 system since installing the most recent system software update (v3.00). Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, as it’s our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms.

oops, someone's gonna get fired over this. LOL
Were they so desperate to have an update to follow MS's update?

Agreed. The update was very lame, hardly any worthwhile functionality added IMO so to rush it out with bugs is really dodgy.

I think it makes the XMB look gorgeous but once I fired up a game, the experience was virtually the same. I'm still waiting for Facebook support and party systems. Come on Sony!

It's not like MS's software updates have never caused problems.

Yes, I don't need an icon for the Playstation store under every single heading. This update was crap.
Ooohhh... sparkly. Lame. How do we roll back?

Doesn't Facebook work through the internet browser?
I'm just installing. It didn't strike me as a major update -- I think Sony does itself a disservice putting version numbers on its updates. It significantly raises expectations.
EDIT: Just updated. Not sure I like having the Slim branding on my non-Slim console. The info bar is great and I like the Store integration. Sparkles don't suck.

I feel basically the same about this update. That damn store link is everywhere now, so annoying.
Dual shock controller syncs up about 50% of the time/fails the other 50%. No to mention now whatever disk is in the PS doesn't auto-run when turned on. It always defaults to one of the many store icons. I have yet to go through the options yet though, to see if its just a settings change that came with the update.

Well I don't have auto-play on (if that's what you're talking about) but after downloading 3.0 it always came up on "What's New" which annoyed me, went to the options and turned that off and now it starts on the game disc.

Thanks. I went through the options, and turned that stupid crap off. Also tweaked other settings to make it more like it was pre-update.

I do like the multi-output audio. I can now switch between my TV and receiver (daytime vs night time) without constantly changing the audio settings.
Not a big deal, but it's a useful feature that's nice to have.
