Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God????

WTF!

Oh, this should be fun to MST3000.

I'm also going to rent Elizabethtown because I have a man-crush on Orlando Bloom. Although I'd rather share a pitcher of beer with him than a sleeping bag. :)

Oh, this should be fun to MST3000. I believe that's the Sci-Fi original that was aired recently. I heard from some friends that had the balls to actually watch it that it's actually better than the first movie (not that that's too hard).

Rub Rabbits...

Well, it is going to have to wait. This week I get paid, and for the first time in months I am going to have some extra money. It is all Tales of Legendia and finally getting Guitar Hero.

By the way, why didn't Tales make the list?

Ah, the final week at my current job is here and I have Winning Eleven 9 (Xbox, naturally) and DOOM (shhhh) to enjoy in my bound-to-be-free time.

Damn, RE: DS is already out?

I'm torn. I really want to try this game out on DS. But having played the 'Cube REmake, and then having to suffer through the PSX original (for posterity's sake), and then making the jump to the excellence that is RE4, I don't know if I can stomach a return to "classic" RE, circa 1996.

No. Seriously. It IS better than the first one. It seems like real gamers were consulted on that one.

An intelligent villain
good reactions from sidekicks. (pffft! Kill him yourself!)
NO COMICAL RELEIF CHARACTER!!! There is some "ha ha" stuff, but it's the exception. It's a pretty dark movie.

A Real party with real puzzles. No 3-roomed dungeon.
A lot of magic use and stuff.

Seriously, I was impressed.
It's not a crowd pleaser.. The hardcore audience will definitely enjoy it.

The world has just become a darker, colder, more horrible place.

Agreed. I don't know just what the hell Steve Martin was thinking... but Peter Sellers... is Peter Sellers. He cannot be imitated. No one else can come close to his style and delivery.

This is an insult. Why does Hollywood feel they have to recreate every classic?
The most recent middle finger was the new "Yours Mine and Ours".

It's all about the dollar, I guess.

I think it's painfully hilarious how marketed this film is. I mean, so is everything, but this film in particular. The rapper woman in the film is in the commercial, my dumbass room mate watches her video on MTV all the time ... how much was her character inserted into the film simply to sell soundtracks/records? How much is Martin going to make this role his own, and not just ape Sellers (in other words, how much is the title just a nostalgic cash-in)?

Next up on the Sellers re-sale: A remake of Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb: Directed by Tony Scott, starring Freddie Prinz Jr. as GC Mandrake, the President, and Dr. Strangelove, with John Travolta as Major Kong!

We can get P. Diddy for the soundtrack! He can sample The Clash's Revolution Rock and have Mini Me riding hot booty in the video!

Is it Beyonce? I don't remember. I remember her being in that last Austin Powers movie, and she didn't really contribute at all, no point in her being there... of course, the movie itself suffered the same illness.

My question: is it Martin's right to "make the role his own", in any fashion? Doesn't the Pink Pather series deserve more respect than this? It's not like it was an underperforming one-hit wonder or anything. These movies were--still are--true classics.

I hate to repeat myself, but it's like the "Yours Mine and Ours" remake. In the original, the mother was anything but some kind of aging hippie. I've no idea just what Dennis Quaid did to Peter Fonda's character, but I don't think I want to know, either.

Is nothing sacred?

I guarantee you one thing... when they eventually remake Casablanca, all hell is going to break loose if it's in the near future.

Here's a good question... Name the last movie with national release which wasn't made "about the dollar" and wasn't a remake or a sequel.

Hmm... I don't watch much of anything recent, but... I guess I'd have to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Pretty original idea, overall. Decent plot, a little over-the-top, but surpisingly enjoyable (up to the last scene--went too far with the no-one-can-die thing).

I don't think that was a remake... and it did rather well. Proof that they CAN make new movies, even with recent/current actors, and sell well.

My $.02 .

Very true. But the only possible reason to make a, erm, well, remake, would be to bring something to the film that hasn't been done before. So since the good Inspector has been done so well, what else is there for Martin to do but make the role his own? As I said, aping Sellers would just drive home the idea of this as a cash-in with nothing original to add to the series. But what am I talking about? Hollywood has no soul, it never has, and I have long stopped expecting anything of substance from them.

I hear ya. I'm convinced that the duration between original film and re-make will continue to get shorter and shoter. They're already advertising a remake of The Poseidon Adventure. They'll eventually start re-making films like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Braveheart. But hopefully by then the Hollywood machine will just eat itself alive and create a vaccuum where actual talent can be showcased.

Oh yeah, and I gotta say ... Mr. and Mrs. Smith sucked. Big time. Every single thing in that movie felt derivative, from the dialogue to the action. I could see every cute little joke coming a mile away. And sweet lord, did it prove that neither Pitt nor Jolie can act.

I'm sorry it was a remake... The plot though is vastly different as such it could be considered to be original. I was thinking about movies like Munich and Napoleon Dynomite.

Heh I just got back from the docs with 2 prescriptions. Ear infection, Sinus infection and throat ulcers from coughing. Ya, i've been a sick penguin.

I've been drinking Jack for the throat, not exactly Scotch Whiskey, but Whiskey none the less.

I fixed the release list. Now off to hide in my cave and play XBox. :)

Ooo... Chibi-Robo looks almost Katamari enough to make me break my embargo against games coming into my house that aren't rented. Tales of Legendia looks pretty sweet (as does the upcoming Grandia 3) but since I'm STILL working on DQ8, not to mention the 2-3 big JRPG's from last year that I haven't finished, let alone really start (Xenosaga 2, Radiata Stories and Star Ocean 3) I really must resist getting a new RPG, at least until FFXII arrives.

But I eagerly await hearing impressions of Chibi-Robo. If the length and fun factor are decent, I might grab it soon. If nothing else, it would distract me from my DS for a short period of time.

I picked up Chibi-Robo today and absolutely love it. I am seriously contemplating writing up a little in-house review for it after I've spent more time with it. It feels a lot like Katamari mixed with Incredible Crisis. I'm not 100% sure why, but that's the vibe I get from it.

It's incredibly charming in the presentation and the stuff that has been going on in just the first hour of play is quite surreal. I just hope that it lasts a decent amount of time.

I was able to resist picking up Tales of Legendia as I already have a stack of RPG's to finish. Did anyone pick up Legendia? Is it at all similar to Tales of Symphonia? I think I will wait until after Grandia 3 comes out and see which is the better game.

Man, someone woke up on the wrong side of the cage today, eh Bootsie? :D

I definately will write a review. I've only spent about 45 minutes playing the game though, so I want to see if there is more to it than what I've done so far or if scrubbing floors with a toothbrush and picking up garbage is the majority of the gameplay.

What can I say? I accidentally put on my angry shorts this morning when I got out of the shower.

Scrubbing floors with a toothbrush and picking up garbage sounds oddly appealing to me, but only in a gaming sense.

I think there's something about putting protective covers on the outlets as well, but that may have been a dream.
