Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin's Creed 2. I'll let you judge the game play and cinematics for yourself while listening to the techno music.

Looks impressive.

Everything about that is amazing. The animation, the graphics, the detail. I haven't been so excited about a sequel in ages.

pretty nice trailer... i have high hopes that they fixed some of the repetitiveness from the first one. If they did, it will be a great title

Even if it is slightly repetitive I will play through it as I'm sure the story will be amazing.

I just want to know if I can do STEALTH KILLS on our targets and get away? Besides the repetitiveness of the first game, it was very annoying that your character is a pretty crappy assassin that had to fight every guard to get away or get too our targets. Not only that, what about other ways besides stabbing them to kill them? Poison, trick a rival to kill them, drop something on them, explosives..etc, I wish they would take some ideas from the hitman series to get an idea on how to make a true assassin game.

This is what bothered me about it too. It would have been so much better if you were a decent assassin. They should really take a look at the Hitman series.

If I remember correctly, you can sort of stealth your way through a few of them. I'd prefer if they were all a little different. Some should be flat out chases, others should be stealthy, but you should always have the option of doing it at least a couple ways.

The combat looks to be improved greatly.

Guess I should finally finish playing the first one before this comes out.

Totally forgot about that.... For an assassin game i was pretty upset that only 2-3 out of the 10 main targets were true 'hit and run' moments. The rest were scripted events that required chasing and killing guards

Now i remember complaining to my friends about the lack of 'sneaky' kills

The first one grew on me after a while, and I ended up liking it quite a bit. My problems with it were the fact that it showed you everything in the first two hours, and how you basically could just bludgeon your way to the finish instead of trying not to cause a commotion.

The ending was pretty lame too.

Fighting guards was very rarely really necessary during the actual assassination. It was a bit of a hassle, but for the most part you could just run away from them. As for the use of poison and the like, I point you to the Wikipedia article on the Hashshashin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashshashin#Tactics:_Assassination.2C_Intimidation _and_Intrigue):They were meticulous in killing the targeted individual, seeking to do so without any additional casualties and loss of innocent life, although they were careful to cultivate their terrifying reputation by slaying their victims in public. Typically, they approached using a disguise, or were already sleeper agents in an entourage. Preferring a small hidden blade or dagger, they rejected poison, bows and other weapons that may have allowed the attacker to escape and live.

Looks good to me! I had a blast playing the first one, and the oft-spoken of repetition didn't bother this gamer much. Except for the flags. Those were right out. This series has to be played on an actual controller tho, so those waiting for the silky smooth pretty HD PC version: Get an X360 wired for it!

It sounded like a techno remix of MJ's Thriller...lol

This looks awesome, I cant wait.

I loved the first one too, so I'm not too concerned with the possibility of disappointment.

Even though I'm tempted, I'm not going to say the music sucked ass. It's very subjective and if you like that crap, I mean stuff, then more power to you. But can we all agree it had no fucking business in this trailer?

I liked the song. But it definitely didn't belong in this trailer ... unless Ubisoft is making a different game to the one I want.

Thing is, I liked the parkour in the first game, and I liked the combat, how it felt as if you were getting more and more baddass due to the instakill moves in due course killing guards which used to take quite some effort (although the game might have been too quick to give you that much power).

But what really got me about the first one is that the whole sci-fi thing was totally unneccessary. Had AC just chucked that, the gameplay itself would have been pretty much the same, and one glaring immersionbreaker-slash-annoyance would have been solved: the glaring repetitive missions and their representation ingame.
It really broke the atmosphere for me that I was constantly reminded I was not only just playing a computer game (what with the TAB overlay), but it also being fed repetitive quests ("hey, lets do this quest icon! There's still five more of them I can do! Whoohoo, I love that rat-in-a-maze-pushing-levers feeling!").

They could have fixed that by dropping the whole sci-fi section (although I loved the look of it), using the safe-house guy as a questgiver and having a 'cloth' map with the objectives. Doing that alone would have immersed me so much more in the game.
But instead it felt as if I was constantly being told: "hey, you're playing a computer game! Look at how my quest mechanics work! Look at my computergame-story and how contrived it is!"

My main hope is that they use a more organic stealth system like what is present in games like Thief.

The whole idea of having 'hide points' made the stealth mechanic feel very... well... mechanical. It was Stealth for Dummies and far from engaging.

The story is what kept me hooked til the finish inspite of the above and the horrible repetition of the missions in the first game.

I'm looking forward to this but I will be disappointed if Ubisoft Montreal has not learned from the experience of the first game's release.

Mmm, I dunno. What made AC's stealth system unique was its 'hide in plain sight' motif. It married this to a Metal-Gear-Solid-esque alertness level display of the guards. Nothing wrong there.Taking it to a true stealth system would be a step backwards, IMO.

AC's stealth system is more akin to how ninja's actually operated as well, trying to fit in as populace, hiding in plain sight, yes, all of that and more. People actually hiding in dark corners ala Thief? Actually far less realistic and far easier to root out. Unless you're batman and can escape vertically, hiding in corners is a bad idea.

I'm still waiting for the game that presents you with overwhelming force upon a major error. In AC, you could still defeat a near army with its combat system.

Been looking forward to this since playing the first.

I dislike how much Assassin's Creed gets unfairly slated by people as being a 'rubbish game', it was an amazing game with one significant flaw in it's design. Compared to all the other crap thats coming out these days Assassin's Creed is still a great game.

And Assassin's Creed II looks to be amazing.

Day one collectors edition purchase for me.

AC didn't need the modern-day side story though. Every story doesn't need to be made relevant to modern day.

Hiding in plain site may be the PR spin that was used but what it actually was was standing in hiding checkpoint A.

There is nothing about the Thief mechanic that is incompatible with the idea of moving through a crowd, etc. It was the fact that AC only relied on that mechanic that made its stealth so poor.

Been spotted? Run for the nearest bail of hay... that was pretty much all you could do. It turned stealth into a largey binary equation.

I'm not saying the mechanic has to be entirely like Thief but the whole "I'm in a safe zone" thing made stealth far less cereberal and far less exciting.

Oh and for the record I loved the whole Animus story and how it tied in with the tale of Altier.

- Mmm, well you could also simply sit down on a bench or blend into a walking group, or fight. I loved having 10 minute battles with extremely large groups :) I'd massacre them left and right until there's no one left. And sitting on a bench is actually far closer to what would actually work IRL than anything Thief presented. There's a lot to admire in AC, let's be charitable. You're right of course too, the hay-bail thing was cheesy and overdone. Didn't much bother me though.

Oh and for the record I loved the whole Animus story and how it tied in with the tale of Altier.
- That's fine, but I'm sure you can agree it wasn't essential to the story in any meaningful way. It was a method for rationalizing 'remembering' how to do things, and how to explain do-overs when you die, etc. Cleverly done, "Wait, that's not how it went..." but still unnecessary.

Sitting on a bench and walking into a group are also these 'hide points' I'm talking about. There was little actual use of your environment to hide, you just needed to find the nearest safe zone and break contact.

I don't think it was a dreadful implementation but for a game that was marketed as being stealth focused its stealth was not particualrly stealthy.

And yes, the story of Alteir could have been told without the Animus but it was the modern day story and how it was using genetic memory that intrigued me just as much as Altier's story. I loved both elements of the tale and the way they fitted together.

I completely understand how many people wanted them done away with but I just don't count myself amongst that number.
