Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) has posted some new screenshots of the SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3329) expansion pack for your viewing pleasure. The title has already gone gold and is slated to drop in North American stores on 2/28.

Anyone here enjoy SWAT 4? It's sitting on my desk waiting for it's turn in my PC.

It was pretty good. The rating system is still borked. Post mission reviews still boink you for excessive force. I'm from Chicago and a guy turning towards me with a gun in his hand get's drilled. In SWAT 4 you get dinked for any violation of procedure and the rating system is still slanted towards not shooting the perps. While that might be good in game it pissed me off to no end being deducted for shooting obvious threats. The add on carrys with it that MASSIVE AD thingie that inserts ads into your game. I have no real problem with that except that I'm not told this software is being put on my computer and I'm not given the option of not installing it. If you patch the original game the Massive Ad thing will also be installed without your knowledge.

For that reason alone I would leave the game on your desk.

Wow. Ok, thanks for the heads up. Between the excessive force and the massive ad thing, it sounds pretty damn frustrating.

If you don't patch it, it is pretty cool. I like the fact that it rewards you for not killing guys.

Between the excessive force and the massive ad thing, it sounds pretty damn frustrating. It is, but after a while you learn how the game "thinks" and how the AI operates. I played it back before I upgraded my computer and while the graphics ran quite well, the AI bogs the system down enough to cause problems when you have a large room of people and the NPCs start calculating how they should react to you.

It's always fun to load up on armor piercing bullets and treat it like a normal FPS once and a while, too! :p

I agree!

It's just that the rating system has issues. I would like to have them work on fixing the game not creating a patch for me to see ads. I agree play the game don't patch it and see for yourself Everlost. I just think stealth software should be punished. Even though I liked this game I stopped playing once they thought they could force ads on me. Before you know it everyone is going to think they are StarForce!

We have draw the line somewhere! :p

I love the game. Just don't patch it. Any FPS that actually requires some thought is welcome on my pc.

I'm currently enjoying Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. It's not a FPS but it's still a fun and challenging game. It also rewards you for not killing anyone, but you still get to knock them out. ;)

I have to admit, the neck snapping in Riddick was the best. ;)

I was going to buy this, but then I saw that Massive Ads were in the latest patch. Does someone have a list of the Massive ad-server IPs that I can add to a hosts file?

As a long-time SWAT3 player, I'd recommend avoiding this altogether. It's a far cry from the previous game.

The sounds were kinda dinky, the voices were repetitious, and the rating system was a little too bleeding-heart-tree-huggy to be realistic.

That, and all your officers sound a bit edgy and tough-guy, and it's over the top, in my opinion. SWAT3 had some of the best voices, most professional in their accents and commands. They sounded like actual law enforcement officers, not Pulp Fiction extras. In fact, I believe SWAT3 producer Rod Fung sampled the voices of real SWAT officers, at least for the Element Lead (you). SWAT4's voices sound like you're leading a gang of degenerate "I'm-a-Badass" wannabes. SWAT3's team really made you feel like they had your back. The team in its successor feels like they're waiting to put a knife in it.

If it's any indication, Rod Fung dropped the hell outta the SWAT4/Urban Justice project a while before its release. I think he played a major role in the success of SWAT3 as a realistic game, even sending some of the developers and designers through LA's own SWAT training courses. His departure (reportedly due to the greatly-reduced tactical/more action design) probably had a lot to do with the polished turd result.

Install SWAT3 again, along with all its patches, etc. Then go to 10-david and have fun with all the user mods and maps.

SWAT 4 has nothing to do with UJ. UJ was a Sierra in-house project that was cancelled years ago. SWAT 4 as released was a completely different game developed by Irrational.

That said, SWAT 3 is one of my favorite games ever. While there are some things I do wish were different/better about SWAT 4, I thoroughly enjoy it. Irrational did a fairly good job of staying relatively true to the basic style of SWAT 3 while giving it their own flair, IMO.

It's just that the rating system has issues. There is a bit of a secret involved in shooting perps without being penalized so much. Before you blow away any bad guy, make sure your crosshairs are on the perp and yell at them to "DROP IT"( F key). If the perp is still threatening, you can kill them and not be penalized for excessive force.

After learning that myself I consistently get 90-100% on most missions that I survive. Once playing online, in the ready room, I begged everybody to please yell before shooting and we ended up with 100%, which is VERY rare for online coop.

The massive ad thing has not bothered me in the least. You don't get any penalties for shooting the signs. It just adds more targets of opportunity.

The sign thing isnt a freaking problem... The game is great, play it or your loss.

The game is great, and the gameplay is simply a hell lot better than SWAT3. It is more than Tactical enough... good team management is very important. You can go through missions without shooting, just commanding your officers. The ad thing is kinda annoying, but nothing too bad. People whine waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. go play it.
