Looks good, but gameplay needs bigtime work if the demo is any consideration at all.

What are you on about? I'm of the opinion the demo was a blast! What was wrong with it, in your opinion?

It looks more like disco-ball type lights.

My only gripe is that Jones seemed too weak for being the best pound for pound fighter.

i thought the demo lacked any visceral feeling when you punched, except for those slo- mo punches and knockdowns.

It seemed to me after many bouts with both fighters, that the AI is more aggressive and smart when the player has Jones. But when you play as Hopkins, it's like Jones is on a lower difficulty setting? Or, I've heard it put forward that Hopkins is more "built-up" than Jones. Not sure.

I've heard the full version has been sped-up slightly to feel more real-time. You can see new gameplay movies on Gamespot, and since Kudo was there demoing the game, I'm sure it's a pretty near-gold build.
Is the demo worth snagging?
Yeah, the Demo is worth it. I mean, it's free after all.

But free doesn't always mean it's good or worth the time in downloading it playing it. :)

Fair enough. I wish I had the hour back it took to play the Timeshift demo. And that took me about 45 min to download and 8 to install. *sigh*
To answer your question, I guess it's hard to say. Here is my quick story: I don't like boxing, really. I've never even watched a real match, or played any other boxing game (except of course Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, and even that was a rental my brother got when it was his turn). I LOVED the demo for FNR3, and play it a few times every night, even though it's just two fighters on a single ring, 4 rounds. It's freaking cool, and very fun.
I'll also say this, it's MUCH more satisfying and fun than Dead or Alive 4. Believe it.

Grow up asshole. The guy did nothing to warrant name calling and bringing the family into it.

Im not really into boxing games, but I'm totally Hooked on the Demo..
It really gets the Adrenaline going when you catch your opponent offguard and then start laying into them.. just like watching real boxing..
These Arena screenshots look great! I'm looking forward to getting this.. :)

I dig it. I think it could feel a lot more strong on impact as well, but I think odds are that it does feel stronger by the gold build. I'm glad to hear they upped the speed some too. Some screens I've seen seem to indicate that. Regardless, I thought the demo was a hell of a lot of fun, and you couldn't get me to NOT buy this game. I skipped fight night round 2, so this should be some good fun for me. I'm really interested in some of the changes to career mode too.

I didn’t dig the demo. I agree with carneconcarne that the punches with the exception of the slow-mo ones felt like you were just tapping the guy in the face. I haven’t tried playing it with the “fight stick” yet, but playing it with the buttons was definitely no DOA4. Also your characters don’t move their feet and it’s difficult to manuver, which is for weird boxing, but not boxing games for some reason.

Considering my DAD is fucking DEAD, I'd like to know how that was possible.
It looked good, but played slow, the announcer was HORRID, sometime the announcing was several punches behind and the replays sucked as well. Usually showing nothing important and sometimes the beam in the arena obscured the view. Also when I knocked Roy Jones down against the ropes he kind of had a funny looking seizure as he fell, another time his WHOLE leg was obscured by the ring. The slow mo knockdowns were cool, but the whole thing felt odd. There were also a bunch of clipping problems with the hands of the boxers. I played it for like and hour and saw those type of issues everywhere.

Woah buddy, bring it back a notch. His name is BabyJesus and by referring to his dad I meant GOD.
I still love you though so no hard feelings.

As indicated, his father is/was Al Mighty - clearly the name of a mere mortal and not some divine entity.

Those "taps" are just jabs. You need to really get some hooks and uppercuts in there to see the sweat fly and the neck twist around. The most powerful hits come when you parry his attack and follow through with a hook or an upper cut, or better yet a haymaker.

I actually thought the announcing was cool, mostly because they said something new every time I played. Sometimes they were off on what they were saying, but it seemed like more often than not they would actually interrupt themselves just to be impressed by a big hit. Pretty cool stuff.
The clipping and object issues are because the demo is from a pretty old build, I read. They should be cleared up in the full version. The movies I saw on gamespot last night were very tight.
I think it's a bug, but sometimes when I knock Jones down his whole leg twitches like he's having a siezure. It's pretty odd, but once the announcer said something like "you hate to say it, but I think some of that damage is permanent..." which seemed pretty funny at the time.
EDIT: Sorry about your Dad, for real. :(

My list of what was bad
- Announcer
- Replays
- Fouls
- Sluggish
If all that gets fixed it will be a hit title (man I'm punny!)

I was initially unimpressed with the demo because of some of the reasons listed before. It felt sluggish, the fighters seemed to be slow and unresponsive.
Then I got talking to a friend about it and he said I should give it another go and try to get into it. Once I got the hang of the controls it really opened up for me. My main problem was using the sticks instead of the buttons as it offers far more control but takes some getting used to. There was something incredibly satisfying about throwing a series of hooks to the body and following up with a haymaker to the face. I just hope that they speed the final version up a wee bit.
So yeah, after spending some time properly with the demo, this has become one of my must-have titles this year.

No worries.. I'll check it out when it hits stores, I thought it was a pretty close to final, demo. But the issues I mentioned above were/are enough to make it a not so good boxing game.

I felt exactly the same way regarding the demo. I was thinking this is way too slow. I was used to Ready to Rumble 1 & 2 on DC and PS2.
I then talked to someone here and he convinced me to give it another go.
I was pressing the buttons NG/DOA style really fast. My boxer seemed to be really slow. X.X.Y.A.B.A.X.X.X. I was thinking it seems really unresponsive :(
After a few goes it just clicked.
If you time your punches and think ahead like left jab, right cross, left cross, right uppercut X...Y...B...X (the buttons are prolly wrong) etc with TIMING your presses your boxer really shines and is FAST! You see I was thinking my boxer has only so much stamina in his arms so if I alternate throwing my arms he can keep up a combo for longer. After a few hits or ineffective swings I block or move around on the spot for a sec so my arms are fresh again.
You can throw punches with the same arm but the second throw isn't as effective. It's slower and not as much OOPMH!
I've knocked down Jones in the first round and he didn't get back up. I layed into him real good with jabs, crosses and uppercuts. He was bleeding real bad.
Jones isn't as much of a heavy hitter but his hooks seem faster. It's easy for me to plow into hopkins with 4 hit combos rather easily again alternating my arms. You have to work harder with Jones but you can still whip Hopkins. I like being Jones against my friends in the demo cos it's harder.
Now for me i'm a total convert and I love the demo to bits.
Me and my friends was playing a few days ago and it got really tactical. I was goading my opponent then bringing my head back when he swung for me and as soon as his fist swung by I layed a devastating 3 or 4 hit combo on him. It felt really satisfying when you got the drop on your friend. It was a ton of fun.
Anyways I hope this helps. Sorry if I just said the obvious etc. I can't believe I wrote all this just for a demo.
I just can't wait to get this game now. :D

Hopefully there is the option to have on-screen health/stamina meters a la FNR2. Of course it's more realistic to not have them, but when I'm in the heat of battle, it's hard to tell how my guy's doing...

Holy shit, those 360 screens don't look much better than the Xbox screens.
Then again, why should that come as a shock to me? Par for the course.

I might not be in the majority here, but I thought the speed was perfectly fine in the demo. It was only slow if you were only throwing haymakers. If you timed your jabs right you could really through some lightning fast combos, especially with Roy Jones.
I just hope that the singleplayer isn't as easy as the demo.
