I cannot fucking believe the final destination made money. Has the world gone insane or have I?

At 132m, I'm guessing GI Joe is categorized as a failure.

It does seem like it. I would have to research it, but I swear that I read an article that said they spent $175 Million to make Joe and another $175 million on marketing.
Doh!
Saw Inglourious Basterds on saturday, I loved it but my friend thought there was to much talk and to little action. Oh well.

Your friend hasn't seen a Tarantino flick before, have they?

Final Destination 2 and 3 are some of the absolute best comedyfilms of all time. I can't wait to see the new one in a less crowded theater so i can laugh to my hearts delight.
I saw inglourious basterds and really, really enjoyed it. I need to see district 9.

I'm a fan of the Final Destination movies... they're not the best movies ever made, but they're fun as hell.

After Star Trek the summer has been kind of disappointing... until August. 2 of the best movies of the year came out in August, that is generally a rarity.

Saw District 9, very awesome movie. Inglourious Basterds lands here in Finland next Friday and quite a few people have already said it might be Tarantino's best movie, even better than Pulp Fiction. While I have a hard time believing that, I'm definitely going to go and see that movie.
Good to see G.I. Joe failing. I was just hoping it would make 100M less than it already did.

But add in the fact studios are NOT getting 100% of the cut. Actually I read their cut of the money is about 50% and if the movie did cost close to $350,000,000 with marketing included, it's looking very bad for that particular movie. Of course DVD sales etc. are still coming.

The studios usually see 80-90% profit from the first 2 weeks of release from the studios on some of the big budget releases. That's why you see the no passes for the first 2 weeks at most movie theaters.
The old rule of thumb is that if a movie grosses double the budget, it will break even. Nowadays it's thrown out the window because most movies will make more on DVD/TV sales than on the theatrical release.
That being said, GI Joe will probably fall in the 'meh' category. Not a hit, but not a bomb either.

Saw Time Travelers Wife and Inglourious Basterds over the weekend, enjoyed them both. I can see how Basterds can go either way, either you will love it or you will hate it. It's 90% talking heads and the scenes go on and on, classic Tarantino. Plus at least half of the film is subtitles from people speaking either French or German.
But the humor is very good in a dark sort of way and the character of Hans Landa (The Jew Hunter) is brilliant and well played (well, up until the end, I didn't quite like that, but whatever, overall very good).
If you like Tarantino and you didn't get bored during the long talking parts of Pulp Fiction, you will like this movie. But if you are looking for an action film, this ain't it, look elsewhere.

Too bad it utterly sucks. If one film cements Rob Zombie's status as a complete hack, its Halloween II.
