Remember back when there was a survey that hinted at what would be contained in the God of War III collector's edition? Well, one of those items is out... but it'll still be offered through another manner. God of War 1 & 2 are being remade and put onto a Blu-Ray disc. Titled God of War Collection, you won't have to worry about having a backwards compatible PS3 to play them. It'll be $40 and run at 1280x720.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today a new and exclusive PlayStation®3 (PS3™) offering for the critically acclaimed God of War® franchise, God of War® Collection. Scheduled for release this holiday season, God of War Collection will feature reworked versions of both God of War® and God of War® II on a single Blu-ray Disc™ at full 1280 x 720 resolution. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PlayStation®Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the first time (included for both games). God of War Collection offers substantial value to PS3 consumers, the compilation of both best-selling games costing just $39.99 MSRP.

Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, Santa Monica Studio, the God of War series brings epic mythological battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos, the triology’s main character, at the center of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him. God of War® III is scheduled for release exclusively on the PS3 in March 2010.

now they need to do this to metal gear.

It sucks they didn't put the GOD III demo on it. It would increase sales dramatically. I'm getting this though. It's one of the few games I'd ever want BC for.

So THAAAAAT's why they didn't release backwards compatibility. They just want to sell it to us AGAIN!

This is uber hot but what I REALLY want is to be able to download this collection from the PSN!

I'm in the same boat, and couldn't be more excited. Great chance to get caught up on the IP prior to the GoW3 release.

Yep, I skipped over GoW2, but GoW1 was great (until Hades). I'd love to see/play these in 720p.

Hmm...I have GoW and GoW2 for the PS2, both unopened, and have a 60 GB PS3 with hardware BC. I wonder how the PQ of this collection would compare.

The fact that it's been remastered into HD easily seals the deal with this shopper. I did want to replay GOW 1 and 2 to get ready for 3, but the PS2 is boxed up in storage and the games as well. Plus the PS2 looks like shit on the plasma, but this is excellent news.

Damn you Sony!!! I dont want to rebuy these again. I already have to with Metroid Prime Trilogy. Stop with all the incentives I apparently care about.

Hopefully Sony releases a PS3 Slim bundle that includes this title as the pack-in game, it's pretty easily their closest equivalent to the Halo series in terms of popularity. Could definitely multiply their PS3 Slim launch figures to crazy-high figures.
