Variety is reporting (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118007857.html?categoryid=13&cs=1) that musican/director Rob Zombie will be returning to the land of remakes with The Blob.
In the original "Blob," an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. While Zombie was a fan of the original, he's formulated a decidedly different take that he would not reveal.
"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie said. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."
...
"I'd been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space," Zombie said. "I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to."

I actually enjoyed his Friday the 13th remake, and I'll probably watch the new one soon, too.
A remake of The Blob with a Zombie flair might be good.

Do you mean Halloween? If so, then I disagree, I thought it was kind of bad for the same reason it sounds like his Blob remake will be bad. In The Blob, the creature was scary because it couldn't be stopped. It kept growing and growing, and there was no way to stop it, meaning whatever you did, you couldn't escape it. The way he derides old "Jello-looking" monster makes it sound like he completely missed that point.
In his Halloween remake, he took Michael Myers from being this quasi-supernatural, unstoppable, mystery to just being a really fucked up, strong person. All the crap about his abusive family and traumatic childhood just made him less scary later in the movie.

While I agree with the "horror" part of the original blob about it being unstoppable, I disagree that Zombie's Halloween was any worse than the original. It takes a horror staple (the "quasi-supernatural, unstoppable, mystery" ala Jason and MM) and moved it from something squarely set in a fantasy setting to a possible reality. This I find much more frightening. The suspension of disbelief was much better handled because it humanized the previously un-human Meyers and made it seem possible for it to actually happen.
Also, I'm a sucker for back-story.

I enjoyed Zombie's Halloween remake but nothing can compare to the original in my eyes. I also liked the 3rd in the series without Meyers.

If you can get past the mullet on Kevin Dillon, the 1988 version of The Blob is pretty good. Some pretty nice, surprising death sequences in that one.

I didn't realize that Zombie made the Halloween remake. I thought Devil's Rejects was fantastic, though (film and soundtrack).

I still need to watch Halloween and both House of 1000 Corpses (for the second time) and The Devil's Rejects.

Does Rob Zombie have to have his hand in EVERY horror remake? I like his stuff but a little diversity would be nice.

I think hes the only one staying true to the horror genre. HO1000C LOL was horrible but everything else has been great.
Halloween movies are sacred to me but really started to suck with the rappers and all, he has brought them back big time.
Busta rhymes can unhinge his jaw like a snake his mouth is so fucking giant, and he uses every inch of it to run his fucking mouth non stop. Why put that fucktard in a horror movie? Totally ruins it.

Halloween kicked ass but Halloween 2 was a piece of shit. Rob Zombie shouldn't touch classic franchises unless he is creatively restrained like he was for the first Halloween.

His work on the original Halloween was excellent... Because the studio limited what he could and couldn't do. For the sequel they let him loose to do whatever he wanted and the movie suffered for it.

I am intrigued now.

That's all nice, but can we have some new movies please? With new characters? It seems every other movie out there is a remake of a remake or a prequel of a sequel of a remake.

I think it will be on par with Halloween which was great.

I gotta disagree. Angry scary redneck Michael Myers didn't do it for me. I'd rather he'd stick to his angry scary redneck movies of his own invention like House of 1K or Devils Rejects.
The scariest quote to me is: "My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie said.
That's equivalent of saying "The first thing I want to change in my remake of Star Wars is that whole Death Star thing. It's going to be an angry scary trailer park in space!"

As long as his movie isn't about a fat chick.

It's called the Blob for a reason Rob. Stop messing with the classics.

I havent liked a Rob Zombie movie yet, this will likely not buck the trend. But then again, I hate most horror movies so... he never really had much of a chance.

The original remake of the blob was always a guilty pleasure of mine. I have seen it so many times, and I laugh hysterically every time. Its terrible, the acting is wooden and it hits every horror cliche. In fact, growing up, I thought it WAS comedy film. I doubt this one will be nearly as fun.
