LucasArts today announced that Star Wars: Empire at War has officially gone gold on PC and is scheduled to ship Feb. 16, 2006.
Star Wars: Empire at War puts the power to command an entire war for the Star Wars galaxy at your fingertips, with battles focused on action-packed combat rather than tedious resource gathering. Set a few years before the events of Episode IV A New Hope, LucasArts’ new PC game lets players wage war on ground and in space, as well as experience the creation of the Rebel Alliance, the strengthening of the Empire and the beginnings of the Galactic Civil War.Check 6 new SW: Empire at War screens (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=31605) over at WorthPlaying.

I found the game to have tedious ground and space combat and exciting turn based gameplay.

Its only tedius if you lose and have to rebuild your troops. I thought the demo was great, this and Oblivion are the only games Ive preordered in a while...

The space battle is a crapload of fun. I found the land battle to be difficult. I'll attribute it now to my noobishness. Plus I think it's just hard to attack, maybe it's easier to defend.
I'm looking foward to this game.

Yeah the space battles are the best part. On land you just have to be sure to use the proper strategy.

I'm psyched about this. What it reminded me of was Rebellion done RIGHT. Rebellion had a lot of potential, but the interface decisions and complete lack of land combat really hurt it.

I think I'm at the point now where the words 'Star Wars' just turns me off.

After playing the demo, I am hesitantly optimistic.

I think the devs behind this would keep that turned on.

Seemed pretty shallow to me, at least judging by the demo.
The key to the ground battle in the demo is Chewie. Use him properly and it is a cakewalk. The other obvious tip is to assault the base from the north, not the south. You can knock down the shield generator(by taking out the power plant) from the north, and you don't even need artillary to do it.

It has Hoth in the demo, bt I don't think it has scripted battles. Or at least it should have a crazy just all out universal conquest mode, moving the game towards being a 3X game, but Real Time. Not a 4X as it's not that complex, but... it looks good.
Oh, and it's Star Wars based, which only is good for the space battles, everything else I could care less about.

The demo sold me, I’ll be there on day one as I’ve said. I can’t wait to make a death star and mess some stuff up. None of the aspects are particularly polished feeling though, which I think may turn some people off. Not me because I can tolerate stuff like HoI, but other people.
Imperial 4 life!

Yep the demo sold me too.
I'm looking forward to dominating the galaxy. I love the way it mixed up rts with turnbased strategy. A bit like Medieval Total War. I'm gonna go straight into the full galaxy conquest and learn the hard way ;)
I'm gonna play the Empire first.
I think the screen shots in the link look better than what my pc turned out in the demo. I've a 6800 in my pc and everything was turned up to max with a resolution of 1280x1024. I guess it was because the demo didn't have that extra polish.

I played a mod for the demo that unlocked every planet and technology in the campaign (it used the demo land maps, and only two different space maps). It's a lot of fun managing your empire/rebellion and teching up.

I thought the ground missions were lacking.
The spaces missions is where the game shines the most. It feels so frantic with all the ties and x wings going at it And the capital ships bombaring each other. Then they que the star wars music and that always gets you pumped up.
I think the game is worth getting if you are a starwars fan, but if you arent a starwars fan I would suggest homeworld 2 if you want good space battles like that.
I don't think the game is really worth buying though.

Could you please make up your damn mind already?
The game is worth buying. I"m not a Star Wars fan by any means, but I enjoyed the demo of this game a lot. Homeworld 2 is ok, but it's very repetative after a while and the missions start feeling the same old unit processing mill quickly.

eh...I'm sure it'll be a pretty cool game, (my slow ass internet prevents me from DLing basically any demo)
The best "Star Wars" games ever made went by the names "X-wing" and "TiE Fighter"
What they need to do is make a totally revamped version of "X-wing" that's graphics, gameplay, depth and damage mapping that is at least on par with the modern series of Ubisoft-published flight-sims.
I can't belive how tired I got of shooting every TiE...simply with 2 hits to destroy (every TiE intercepter...3 or 4!!!), so steril and unimaginative. Yes...a new "X-wing" would be awsome. (espescially the way I'd do it...lol)
