So we've known for more than a week that Sony is shoring up their banks in response to Xbox Live's success, but what name will it have? Playstation Magazine says Playstation Network. That's good. Keep it simple guys. You don't want to shock the consumers with anything fancy.
That would be something very good indeed for PS3, online capabilities is a must for console in this days now.

competition is good.
I hope they raise the bar.

If Sony actually comes out with something similar to Xbox Live (especially something where I can check the internet to see if anyone is online before I boot up my system) I will deeply consider getting a PS3 at launch. Now, if only the analogue sticks on the controllers would be just a bit tighter, then things may be perfect. :)

Ken Kuturagi circa 2000:
"You can communicate to a new cyber-city," he said in an interview with Newsweek earlier this year. "This will be the ideal home server. Did you see the movie 'The Matrix'? Same interface. Same concept. Starting from next year, you can jack into 'The Matrix'."
I will say no more.

Even if they got it out for launch time, I do not think it will be any good for at least 1-2 years. I think they will have the generic MMOG launch issues - lag lag lag, disconnect patch, repeat.

1)It was established in another thread that there was an online service for the PS2, which was discontinued quickly and never released overseas (and I was pretty sure you were in that thread)
2)That translation looks pretty shoddy. "You can communicate to a new cyber-city?" Come on, now.

I seriously think you guys overrate online multiplayer. As long as they have a token service so they can brag that they have it, they are set. And as long as MS charges to play multiplayer games, the majority of players won't use it.

It's not just about multiplayer though. I only got my 360 yesterday and I love that I can download game demos and play the arcade games. It's a very nice, seamless experience. Now get the download in the background thing going...

When he's talking about The Matrix, which part does he mean? The part where you have to jam that thing into the base of your skull, or the multiple green streaming characters?

I am sure you do, but I am talking about the average gamer.

So it was a broken promise instead of a lie? What's the difference?
And yeah, I'm sure Newsweek keeps "shoddy" translators on staff.

You can play multi-player for free. They charge you to play online with it, but they do give you a bunch of great features, which, for most people who use it, justify the price.
Do you pay for TV (be it cable or statellite) service? Why? You can get channels for free, but you pay to get more. Same with Live.

I am just saying that it is a hassle that the average gamer will not want to go through, especially if they can play using the shitty Sony sevice for free.

What are you talking about?
The average gamer can get on Xbox live silver and download demos for free

Please put thinkgs into perspective:
What was the last good piece of Sony software?
To get an idea of how friendly and intuitive their online experience will be, please try using their online music store, Sony Connect.
Sorry Sony. Maybe when you hire some half-decent software developers we can begin to expect good things from you.

When they offer a service no one uses, one can hardly call it either. I could care less one way or the other, and I'm not so sure why you're acting like your world was ripped from it's moorings when the PS2 didn't go online in NA.
And yeah, I'm sure Newsweek keeps "shoddy" translators on staff.
Uh, dude, that's broken english. Read the sentence again. Unless you are insinuating that he can't speak Japanese clearly?

I think you seriously underrate online multiplayer. How would you feel if all of a sudden you couldn't play multiplayer over the internet on your PC?
A 360 for me is a far more attractive prospect because of Xbox Live.
It's only £39 in the UK. That is excellent value for money for a great service.
For me Xbox Live is something that gives me the capability of popping a cd in and getting online multiplayer very very easily with integrated voice. No hassle. No other platform makes it that easy.
If Sony has a serious Sony Online service then I will consider buying a PS3.
