Eurogamer (www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62715) has an article up with Stephen Cakebread, creator of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved and its predecessor. The article talks abit about the fanatical community, where the game came from and what makes it so special.

But why is Retro Evolved popular? What's so special about it? Many games do the things it does. Perhaps the difference is that it appeals on a number of levels. One person who thinks so is Leo Tan of PR firm Barrington Harvey, who despite having no association with Microsoft or Bizarre Creations is well known in trade circles for going around telling everyone how great Geometry Wars is, and how he's got the "UK games industry high score" of 970,360. The interesting thing is that he doesn't play it just to lord it over us. "I love the sound, the insanity, the borderline nature of trying to stay alive. It's an assault on the senses. Turn the volume up, the lights down and get an excessive amount of caffeine and chocolate by your side," he says, soundbiting us a little in the process.
I've hit a rut in this game and simply can't break my high score. The game is definitely a unique experience everyone needs to try!

$400 + $12.50 to download the title :D It's very good, but at the same time I found the game incredibly frustrating at times. Then again I downloaded Hardwood Spades, so maybe I just have bad taste ;)

Smallest package you can buy is $6.25 for 500. But I'd honestly start with 2000 anyway, so you can get this and $20 worth of more Live Arcade games. Many of them are really great.

I really like the game, but I'm curious why others like it. I know I like it, because I'm a crusty old fart, who grew up on shooters (REAL shooters like R-type, not FPS's!).

Also, what makes GW so much better than Mutant Storm? Similar game, but GW outsells Mutant 4:1.

As grand Poo-Bah, I cannot be sly, only hexagonal. I also reserve the right to hexagonally rearrange scenerey I encounter all day to make stars and black pearls. Neo looks at the matrix and source code. I look at the world and see potential black pearls.... :p

Heh, i just got GW and felt pretty good about cracking 100k. Then I checked the leaderboards. Not so proud anymore.

That was my original reason for playing Hexic as much as I did :p There's just something satisfying in beating a penguin. ;)

I'm so noobish at this game it hurts. A pathetic 275k at the mo.

I must get into this game a bit more. My gaming calendar is busy at the mo though :D

I confess it was after. I have been neglecting my geowars though since I got 12/12. You just gave me some motivation. :)
