Patch doesn't do anything about lag or bassackwards lobbies (booo!)

Call of Duty 2 patch @ Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/01/call-of-duty-2-patch-does-not-address-multiplayer-issues/)

Activision has released a Call of Duty 2 patch addressing the save game file corruption in the single-player campaign—a bug that has threatened the sanity of numerous gamers. To be clear, the patch does not pertain to the game's online multiplayer. However, according to Activision, "The team is continuing to work on additional updates..." Keep your fingers crossed.

Looks like I will after all be trading in COD2, since they can't pull seem to get their act together in regards to the steaming pile of shit that is the online side of this title.

So does anyone give a damn?

Man. This couldn't really suck anymore. I was so excited to get to play again. I don't know if I shouldn't have faith in Activision, or if I shouldn't have faith in Infinity Ward if this keeps up.

Or both. I think maybe both.

I hate to say this, but I'm SOOOOOOO glad I didn't even bother to try to buy a 360 at launch. Give them a few months and they'll get the bugs worked out for the console and the games, and maybe even a price drop too (assuming Sony actually does release the PS3 ;)).

Until then I'm totally last gen. It's all about the $20 Platinum hits. Heck, I still have Dreamcast games that I haven't finished.

Man, that reminds me to get past disc 1 of Code Veronica...

And would someone be so kind as to give us a quick refresher about what is so screwed up about CoD2 multiplayer? "bassackwards lobbies"?

I, for one, am elated for this patch. I love the campaign, but that doesn't necessarily mean I want to start all of them all over again when I'm halfway through the game...whooooo!

As far as I can tell, multiplayer games are hosted by the person who starts the game. Many times these people don't have a suitable connection, and when the game starts it's simply unplayable. So then you leave and join a new game hoping not to repeat the whole process over again.

I personally find it frustrating that we pay for the XBox Live service, and yet no dedicated game servers come with that subscription. If the major benefit of the Gold package is online play, and we're doing the hosting, what exactly is that $59.99/year going toward?

I have had a few enjoyable matches; however, they were usually with a small number of players.

How does patching even work with the 360? Me = curious.

I was so looking forward to the MP patch. To join my friends in a lobby without having to private chat and yell "NOW!" at them to join me would be nice.

The problem isn't that the 360 hosts. I can have many people on my 360 PGR3 or Halo2. It's fine.

Halo2 matches are a lot more hectic than CoD2 matches too. A Xbox/360 are good for 8 people over live on my connection before people started complaining.
