Impossible you say? Think again. (http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=Dondums)
For those of you unable to view the site, basically someone managed to glitch a game to get a gamer score of almost 5 million. Right now if you owned every game and every arcade game you wouldn't even be able to break 25,000. Needless to say, lets hope this gets addressed or the whole system becomes worthless.
Update: Just got word from Major Nelson that they are aware of it and are going to fix it.
I think there's some glitches yet to be worked out on the gamerscore system.

Maybe you can explain to all of us not registered at that site what this news post is all about?

Gamer score. Xbox.com. Those words mean nothing at all to you?
Hey maybe you were born literally 5 minutes ago and had never heard of either, if so, I apologize. I mean, hey, maybe they've never been mentioned on Ev Av.

The dude (gamertag: dondums) managed to get 4915477 Gamerpoints from Condemned, even though there are only 970 possible points. So, a little cheating is happening. Or, looks like a lot of cheating is happening.
It says 4915477 on the summary page, but if you go and actually compare his achievements to yours, it only shows he has 180 or so. Its weird.

rjcc: Just stop being such an ass. Please.
Is it really too much to ask that the news post actually explains what it's all about with a quote or something, since the link is worthless for people without an account at the linked site?
bone_matrix: Thanks.

Xbox.com has a script glitch.
Breaking news right here folks. When someone asks you about this later, don't forget to tell them that you saw it at evav FIRST!

Sorry, didn't realize that you had to actually log in to view other people's Live profile. That's pretty lame.

Never called you a noob, but seriously, you've never heard of a gamer score......ever. Not once. Not in passing, you have no clue what it is, but yet you're interested in the post anyway. I propose a new Ev Av guideline, every single word in every post must be linked to a google search or wiki explaining it's definition to someone who might not have been to the site before.

Gamer Score is something very specific to Xbox Live. You can't assume every person who is into gaming owns a Live-enabled Xbox, or even owns a console at all.
As for people being interested in the post, but not knowing what a Gamer Score is, I don't see anything strange about that. Curiosity is natural.

Ahh, you've gotta love hackers. A gamerscore that high doesn't even do anything for you (I don't think), but still people hack and get it that high just so the little number next to their name is higher than everyone elses little numbers...

Hopefully they get the glitch sorted out soon. I haven't had any issues with my gamerscore being incorrect.
Compairing achievements is pretty cool, I didn't know you could do that on the website. I got 30/50 achievements on Condemned on the first play through. I am going to rent it again soon and play through again to go for the rest, it's short but damn good. I wish now I had kept it longer before sending it back to Gamefly.

You don't need an xbox to have heard of a gamer score before, because its been mentioned on here a million times plus 1. Even if you haven't, you're a 5 second google search away from knowing. If he asked why the score itself was so unusual, thats understandable, but "explain this to me" (like i'm a child) is just silly.

if i'm reading this right, the bug is just a display issue and the actual gamer points are still counted correctly. Is it just a display issue on the webpage? Not a big bug I would think.

It's a 5 second deal to put an explanation into the news story like he suggested as well.

Is it just a website glitch? I've been kinda' suspecting something like this would happen soon... after all achievement scoreing is designed on the developer end for every game that comes out, so the chances that a game with get through with some scoreing bug is pretty good. Hopefully there's some microsoft-xboxlive-end score cap preset for every game, which would be a pretty good way to stop huge overscoreing, if not cheating to get the max.

The cap is 1,000 points per game afaik.

Yeah from what I have seen it's 1,000 max for retail games and 200 for the games you can buy from Live Arcade.

I'm also pretty sure its only 1,000 points. At least, thats the max I've seen or heard of per game.
Yeah looks more like a website glitch.
"So, you told dondums he doesn't actually have about 5,000,000 points?"
"Well, no. We fixed the glitch on the website. It will work itself out in the end."
dondums: "B...b...burn the servers down."

Not everyone has an xbox, and since then don't, they probably don't read every single xbox related post. Don't be such a dick wad.

Also wasn't there something in the recent patch for the 360 that was supposed to improve integration with the website and games played? Perhaps the glitch/bug was introduced then.

I've heard of the gamer score before but I only have a vauge understanding of what it is because I dont have an xbox or x360. But its difficult for me to know how 'big' that number is. Is it like 'wow totally awesome' big or 'wtf that cant be right' big?
I don't think its too much to ask for a frame of reference for such things. So don't knock a guy for not really understanding what its about.

The frame of reference is in the newspost. Bap edited it in about an hour before you posted doyama. :D
But, yes, there wasn't anything when it was first posted. It was a slight oversight. We all make mistakes. Its just too bad some of of have to be a-holes.

Also note that it's only this dildo's aggregate Gamerscore that's inflated. If you go into the Condemned detail listing, you'll see this mouthbreathing cockknocker hasn't even finished the game. Probably too afraid and is waiting for his big sister to come home and hold him while he plays through the rest while he cries and shivers.

Already pretty worthless if you ask me. "Let's see who can buy the most games and clear them all even if they hate the genre and/or the game sucks" :(
I mean it's nice to see, you can find out roughly how much the person plays games, but it's not a big deal.

In my opinion the gamerscore and achievements are one of the best things on XBL. The gamerscore gives you a rough idea of whether someone plays a lot of games. The achievements let you dig into the details. Does the person play the same games as you? Are they farther in one game then you are? If so then maybe you can ask them how to get by a difficulty challenge. With friends, the achievements and such can be used for bragging rights or used for competitions (who can beat CoD2 on Veteran the quickest).

I actually used it once. I was stuck on one of the bosses and Kameo and checked my friends list to see who was playing it too. I noticed Ludoc had beaten the particular boss and invited him to a private chat for help. :)

That's a good example of how I view this gamerscore thing too. I could care less about a high score. I also use it to see what the goals are the game devs put on their game and it sometimes makes me think of trying things I wouldn't have otherwise.
My concern though is that in 5 years when there are hundreds of games out the list interface is going to get pretty messy. As it stands there isn't any filtering mechanisms that I can see.

Agreed 100%. I love the achievements and the gamerscore gives a quick overview. Depending on the game the achievements can be quite a challenge to get so it's not like you can just play every game and mow through them racking up mass gamerscore. Someone who plays more games has a better chance of getting a higher score by getting a large amount of the easier achievements, but as many have mentioned you have the ability to dig deeper and see just what they have done in what game.

This is a good point and is something that needs to be addressed. Another thing I don't like is after playing a demo of some of the Live Arcade games they are stuck in my profile as 0/200 gamerscore even though I could never get any achievements because it was a demo. On the website is shows your score out of total possible score from all games played (950/8000 for example) and those demos are counted in that total. I would like to see that fixed also.

Never called you a pretentious asshole, until now. I would have preferred a bit more explanation on it as well. And before you become a total prick about it, I know what a gamerscore is, and was interested, but you need to sign in to the site to view it, and registering if you don't have an account takes a good five minutes. To someone who just wants to see what its about quickly, that's a waste of time. Way to be a bitch, dude. Nice job.

my roomate was playing DOA4, and i decided to hop on and play 1 round of versus with him. now, i had never played DOA4 before, and after 1 match, somehow i was given 2 achievements; one for playing the game 5 hours, and 1 for unlocking some character.

Yeah, every time someone comes over to play, they magically get about 200 gamerpoints for unlocking the Spartan, playing 10 hours, and a couple of other random ones.
It's kinda funny, but kinda buggy. :P
