Following the Prey Press Tour, 1Up.com is doing a week long feature (http://prey.1up.com/) on Prey, with a new story every day. For Tuesday they have an interview (http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3147571) with our favorite 3D Realms spokesgamer, George "When it's Done" Broussard.

1UP: What do you expect, what do you hope for out of it all when it's done? What do you expect of Prey when it's wrapped up here in the next few months?

George Broussard: Really, we're just hoping it's a fun game to play and that people enjoy playing it. I mean, it's a pretty cliché answer, but there's really no other way to say it. We're hoping to make a game that everybody likes, and we certainly like playing it, and really, we're just hoping that it can show that you can bring back a cool idea from 10 years ago and make a neat game out of it with completely different technology and a completely different theme.

I was just thinking that we needed a hybrid of Turok and Doom 3. Now my dreams have come true.

Is he actually talking about Prey here? ;)

I reallly kind of wondered if they quickly made Prey in order to recover the money they've been no doubt hemmoraging over DN4E development?

They're a private company...

Well if they were developing it and it was released 3 years ago you may have a point. Otherwise my definition of quickly may differ.

George does eventually talk about DNF at the end of the article:

GB: You know, we've been so busy on Duke Forever for so long that we can't really see past just finishing this game, but you never can tell when it's done, you know, what you want to work on next.

1UP: Wait, wait. You guys are working on Duke Forever?

GB: [Laughs] And ever and ever.

1UP: And when's that due out again?

GB: [Laughs] I think it'll be out when pigs fly. But it's definitely going well now. Things are together; we're in full production. We're basically just pulling all the pieces together and making the game out of it. There's a lot that's finished. All the guns are finished. Most of the creatures are finished. And as I said, we're just basically pulling it all together and trying to make it fun. We've kind of got all these disassociated elements that make up a game, and you put them together and things happen. And then you just tweak it and polish it until it's fun, and that's kind of the phase we're in now, just trying to make something that is really fun to play and interesting.

Must...resist..........ah fuck it.

FUCK YOU GEORGE BROUSSARD.

Great interview, but the very end really pissed me off:

1UP: Hey, you know, that's awesome. I have to give you respect because with so many people out there saying stuff, it would be very easy to just, you know, pack it in or whatnot, and you guys have been resolute of, "This is going to be an awesome game. Just chill out." And I think that's fantastic.

Way to stay neutral, 1Up. Dan Hsu should put his foot in this guy's ass.

The headline should read "George Broussard Talks Shit" or "George Broussard Talks Out His Ass". But I suppose those are both understood when you say "George Broussard Talks".

Most of the creatures are finished.

WTF?! How many creatures are there?

"Most of the creatures and weapons are finished."

Georgey Boy should've asked for a complete DNF design document for Christmas 1998, instead of Pokemon Blue Version.

No need for a middleman since I've been reading EA for a long time. :)

Hey, to each their own but I do think it's cool that these guys stick to their thing. Like, what, if DNF is awesome when it comes out we're not all going to dig on it? No one seemed to mind much when HL2 finally arrived.

And if it's a bomb we won't hesitate to call it one. Hell, for that matter you gotta figure it's going to be held to a crazy high standard just due to its history. That's sorta where I was coming from too. I mean, at this point these guys are going to have to pull off a freaking unbelievable game.

Industry analysts have predicted that this game will have about 3 different creatures.

I hope they just release it as a text based adventure game. I'd buy it

I don't doubt 1UP when it comes to reviews, and I trust EGM's reviews for the most part. I actually used to work with Shoe when I was at Gamers.com.

What bothered me was you went from journalist to a starstruck fanboy instantly. I'd love to get George on the phone or meet him and take him to task over DNF. There has to be accountability, and quite honestly, no one has held him accountable because he's still got the DNF publishing gig with Take-Two.

I would have also asked him how DNF could possibly live up to George's hype. He and Scott says it's taking so long because it'll be like nothing we've seen before....but even if it is a good...or even great game, it's likely it still won't live up to the hype because the outrageously long development time. Truth be told, 3DR is setting themselves up for failure and gamers up for disappointment....at least the gamers who still believe in DNF.

The people that believe in DNF are few and far between. This is the best marketing move ever ;) Every gamer will be so amazed that the game actually shipped that it will get Game of the Year for that reason only. It doesn't matter how the game turns out.

Y'know, I'm probably gonna come accross as one of them viral-marketing dudes, but I'm still looking forward to Duke. I mean, y'know, it's Duke! "Your ass, your face, what's the difference?" :D ..The company might be a pack of assholes for making me wait this long, but if Duke's still Duke he's gonna be a hard character to not like. (and that old preview movie floating around out there: even without the graphic overhaul it's getting, it still looks fun.)

Man, just think how much money these people could have made had they been onto their third or fourth duke3d incarnation already? Now the only real question is, *if* it finally comes out, which console should they aim at porting it to? XBox720? PS6? Nintendo octa-holodeck? Apple Pico-Holo-Quadraphono-Vibro-podule? ;)

I still think we'll be seeing more of DNF in 2006.

If thats the case, this game better jerk me off through my monitor. Because I seriously dont see what they could be doing to take this long. He's lucky he's got that cushy job there. He would have been fired a long time ago with any other company. And of course George can say what he wants, they're not working with a professional time table.

Christ, imagine if DNF did ever come out and imagine some more if they ever planned an expansion pack

O___O

In case anyone is still reading the thread, it was a complete surprise that George even mentioned DNF, much less gave a morsel on it. It had been made crystal clear up front that this was to be strictly a Prey thing. He did me a solid by giving a comment. So, yeah, I was pretty enthusiastic about that.

"There has to be accountability, and quite honestly, no one has held him accountable because he's still got the DNF publishing gig with Take-Two."

Accountability? Um...what? He owns the company and they're funding the game themselves. If Take Two want to hold him accountable, they don't have to publish his game. As far as fans or the press holding him accountable, he gets shit on all the time. How's that not being held accountable?

What kind of accountability do you expect?

I think alot of hate from 3drealms comes from the fact that the general public only know one side of the story. Like a post just thought that the owner of 3drealms wasnt georgie himself.
