Are you ready to play the air guitar instead of another peripheral? You may get your chance with the next installment of Rock Band. MTV Games manager Scott Guthrie sat down with MCV (http://www.mcvuk.com/features/533/Great-Scott) and said he could see Rock Band 3 utilizing the Project Natal technology.

"The Harmonix development team are working on what is effectively the next game, or Rock Band 3," Guthrie told MCV. "We aren't standing still--we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft. We're working with them to pull some things together. So it's pretty exciting time for the future of our music game business."

Use it for general core-gameplay? Bad idea.

Use it to augment the core-gameplay without changing it? Great idea.

The first things that came to my mind were stuff like the vocalist leaning in to the crowd, and you actually reaching your hand out (detected by Natal) while the fans grope at you incessantly.

Or the drummer/vocalist being able to activate star power using a specific pose or motion.

Or designing your own poses for your characters by mo-capping your own body.

Such a high profile cross-platform game isn't going to make any big changes that only work with hardware only a small number of people own. Expect Natal-specific stuff to be small scale additions that don't change the core experience in any significant way.

I doubt we'd see any Natal features at all in a game like this unless it was subsidized by Microsoft.

I would like to hold the mic out toward the screen to increase the crowd volume.
(I love when they sing along.)

Maybe you'll gain extra points for spinning around while you play or jump in the air. It should be something like that but not enough to change the game
