There's something not right about all the Gothic 3 screenshots I've seen. I think they feel too crowded, every single texture has a million little details and it's a sensory overload for my eyes.
They look too 'burned'. Like someone went into photoshop and used the burn brush.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Even real-life doesn't have all these color varieties in one single space :p

They do look way too busy, and I can also see the "burn" effect.

Never thought I'd hear somebody say a game/screens had too many details...
But I do agree, I have that same feeling each time I see new screens .. Lets just hope its the city /rural environments only :)
I think they look great! But I'm a raving fanboy.
They will probably look alot different in motion.
What I really liked about Gothic2 was the viewdistance and full speech. I know full speech is in Gothic3, but I hope the viewdistance is not cramped. Some of the screenshots show it a bit and it seems they made it quite a long distance.
Edit: And the trees and foilage look absolutely amazing! The game is pushing an extreme amount of pixels. I'm really looking forward to this one as I have faith in the developers to deliver a great product yet again.

I just finished Gothic 2 and can't wait for this one... Hopefully they will release it over here in the states at launch.

Okay, if I loved Morrowind with all my soul how badly do I need to play the Gothic games?

You should really give it a try, and give the game a chance with the controls... you get use to it very quickly. Look in the ini file to add some extra features like quicksave, and drink potions. All in all I had a much better overall experience with Gothic 2 than Morrowind.
Gothic 2 and Morrowind have been my two favourite RPGs of the past 4 years, and they are both really different. I wouldn't want to choose which one I liked best... they were both awesome.
I would second the give the controls a big learning curve though, but don't worry because eventually they will become second nature to you and you'll be kicking arse.

All I ever hear about Gothic is that the controls are a nightmare.
That has kept me away this whole time.

Gothic series has what I call the euro fantasy setting. There'll be an interview with them soon (god it took a long time to setup~!&#$)

I bought gothic 2 a few months back for $10, but my video card is artifacting all over the place when I play games, so I haven't had a chance to actually try it. Can someone tell me what I'm missing in regards to the melee combat? Is it at least better than morrowind's? Loved morrowind, but sword-swinging was mindnumbingly boring.

I can't recommend Gothic 2 enough. I'm now replaying it with the expansion - at first the graphics show their age (3+ years old) but that all quickly becomes irrevelant as you get sucked into the game. I personally liked it much better than Morrowind.
I'm looking forward to Gothic 3 almost as much as the new Tool album...

It took me about 30-60 minutes to get used to the controls - once I did that, I absoultly loved the sword fights I got into. It became a game of strategy on the sword fights (do I swing left or right or from above? Which combo moves should I use?). There are some quirks in the controls but once you get used to them, just about everything else in the game is great. When you swing a sword here, you have control over how you swing it - and you have to think about how to use your weapon. There never was any mindnumbingly boring sword-swinging in Gothic.
As to Morrowind and Gothic? Both are seperate games and both are good for what they do. I enjoyed Gothic more because of a tighter storyline - though with great freedom. If you enjoyed Morrowind, you will enjoy the Gothic world. Plus, Gothic 3, they made the controls easier (though you can still use the Gothic 2 controls as well).
If you have not tried it, you can get Gothic 2 gold for about 17 bucks from Amazon. A great price for a great game.
The screenshots look great - even with too many details.

While playing gothic, I noticed that the over all gaming experience reminds me of playing Ultima's. In a sense they have taken the torch from the avatar.

I've tried to play gothic 2 3 times now. I've made it to the first town, but the thought of running around town talking to every NPC just turns me off.
