Even though Earthworm Jim is one of the choices on the Genesis Poll (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92805), Gameloft announced today that Earthworm Jim would be making it to all three major systems as a purchasable download later this year.

"The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today's gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible," said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president, Gameloft.

"Earthworm Jim resonates with millions of people worldwide and we are excited to have one of the best developers in the industry create this game for a new audience," said Herve Caen, CEO, Interplay.

When I was fishing around for news I saw this and just assumed it had won. The inevitability didn't seem newsworthy.

The competition not being closed teaches us the value of the 'ass', 'u', 'me' lesson.

I thought the same thing until I pulled up another news article that said the Genesis poll didn't close until the 21st, but I couldn't confirm it because the Genesis poll's website won't load.

Lets file this one under: WTF?

Yeah, it's been on the VC for almost a year now.

you know what? I don't think I want the gameloft version.
I'm gonna wait for the SEGA version which will have a way better mame emulation of the sprites!

Sure it may COST more, but you can't skip on quality when you are buying a pixel perfect reprint of an 80s game. It's important that the gameplay be as unmodernized as possible.

oh heck! I'll just buy them both! More mame shovelware for me!

Their PR-speak seems a little out of place here--EWJ was a fun action-platformer with absurd humour but I don't feel like it was very "immersive" or that it "resonates" with gamers.

Actually, on second thought, a couple points do resonate: the game taught me to appreciate the depth of evil in cats and Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain.

As a fan of Doug Tennapel's artwork, I'm glad to see EWJ getting revived. I just hope they don't mess around with trying to bring back that horrible N64 game.

This is what kills me about people buying stuff on the VC. I just can't believe it. I'll pay for an older game, of course, but only if you actually ADD SOME VALUE to it, like updating the graphics, or adding features to the gameplay like online multiplayer, or the like.

I'm not buying a fucking ROM. Screw that.

Thats why I took my original XBOX and put 3 emulators on it, now I can play ALL of the NES/Sega/SNES/64 games!

EWJ was high on atmosphere, but it was also high on frustration.

It appears that Earthworm Jim has now been removed from the Genesis Poll. Toejam and Earl is now leading the pack.

I can not believe thats with EWJ removed people would still rather play Toejam than a possibly networked version of Streets of Rage.

I wonder what version the consoles will get. The Genesis version (superior sound), the SNES version (superior graphics, missing a level from the Genesis version), or the Sega CD version ("CD quality" but strangely worse than the Genesis soundtrack, an extra level on top of the Genesis' extra one).

I definitely dug the worm back in the day

Shining Force, please. I don't want to think that with Jim taken out, Toe Jam and Earl is now the top contender.
