District 9 was one of the best sci-fi action movies I've seen in years. I absolutely loved every minute of it. Thankfully I wasn't aware of the hype surrounding it until after, and didn't see any trailers, so I didn't have expectations.

I can't think of a sci-fi movie I was more enthralled by since watching Aliens and Starship Troopers for the first time.

I just came back from watching District 9. I was very entertained and especially the last half of the movie is great. It starts of pretty slow, but they have to build up the story.

The humor is great, the weapons are cool, the aliens have a really nice design and overall I would give it a 4.5/6.

Absolutely thrilled D9 is doing so well. Was an excellent movie, and hope this proves you don't need massive budgets to do so.

I saw GI Joe this weekend and it was good. I thought it was going to be awfull but I liked it. Its not the greatest movie ever or anything, just a fun popcorn movie.

Absolutely loved District 9 as well. And I also loved Ponyo as well for different reasons. Miyazaki does it again. Inglourious Basterds this weekend!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see D9 go up after this week now that people know its good. I know I was waiting to see some reviews, I might have to see it some time this week now.

Damnit, I'm Thailand and D9 doesn't come out here for another week or two, I cannot wait.

D-9 and Ponyo are the best movies this week, hands down.

Let me see if I can phrase this correctly without spoilers.
I dislike the movie trope where a person doesn't do what almost everyone else would do in that situation, just to artificially extend a confrontation.
I wish confrontations arose and receded organically. There are too many "why did the director do that" moments to make d-9 a classic.
It was enjoyable, but I should have waited to catch it on dvd with perhaps deleted scenes and extras to defend/support the work.

I'm pleased D9 did well. I read an interview with Neill Blomkamp (http://www.darkhorizons.com/interviews/1465/neill-blomkamp-for-district-9-) yesterday where he was nervous about the kind of opening and reception it would get.

Looks like he doesn't have to stress now.

The Escapist had a good video review, that pretty much summed up my experience with D9 as well.

I was expecting GI JOE to be utter shit, and was somewhat shocked at how good it was compared to Summer's last 2 movies. The endless action starts to get tedious at the end but the first half or so was actually pretty good.

Got wise and saw 500 Days of Summer.

To sum it up simply, it was no bummer. :D

Wow. I am in the vast minority here. I really disliked the movie. I felt while the long action scene was done very well, the movie dragged for so long it didn't make up for it. And there were little plotholes that annoyed me as well, but I won't spoil the movie for those who plan on seeing it.

i loved it. you can see that d9 is probably doing so well just from strong word of mouth and thats what really counts for a movie's long term popularity and success.

Hmm, I'm surprised that D9 is considered a low budget movie! The effects were great!

Definitely looking forward to District 10!

District 9 was bloody brilliant! Glad it did well. Hope more people give it a chance. Wonder what the planned Halo would've been like. I'm sure it would've rocked!

Hmm, I'm surprised that D9 is considered a low budget movie! The effects were great!

Definitely looking forward to District 10!

Movies that have thrown 100-150 million at their effects have looked worse than this 30 million budget movie (Wolverine, for example).

I thought it was the best movie of the year. Was a little worried after the first 20 minutes, cause the "experts" were really starting to annoy me, but it turned itself way around. Quite glad to see it doing so well.

It might not make it to 100 million, but with the budget so low it'll make a hefty profit.
