Do you still have a bunch of old console controllers or do you think that nothing can beat that old SNES controller for gaming? Well this site (http://www.retrousb.com/) sells everything you want to use those old classics on a USB PC.
Editor's Note: That's pretty damn cool. Use one of those in conjunction with MAME and it's flashback time.

Nice if you're only using the adaptor. Horrifying (at least to my inner collector) if you're destroying old controllers to only now work under USB.

Horrible prices. I'd rather make my own adaptors, thanks.

I saw this a while back and got really excited, as it's a pretty cool idea, but I really don't think I could rationalize it. It's spendy, and for the price, I could get a decent PC gamepad, if they still made any of them...
My plan for emulators is pretty simple, actually. I'm waiting for the XBox to start to phase out and I'm going to hack a XBox-S Controller. Once I can pick one up for about 15 bucks, the splicing of the USB cable combined with a pretty nice controller with a ton of buttons means I'll have something easy to use with all my ROMs.

Hm interesting idea but with a spare 360 wired controller laying around not sure I have a need for true retro like this. I really like the new 360 controller a lot. My SNES controllers will remain dedicated to the SNES itself.
And yeah seems pretty pricey but it is a definite niche trying to be filled.

Why would anyone need to do this when you can just buy a wired 360 controller? Mine works great.

If you have an XBox controller, you can buy an adapter cable for less than $5. It works great for my NES and SNES emulators.

I took one of my Xbox S controllers, and I split it. That way it works for Xbox and my PC, works great (if you're confused, the red wire from the controller is sodered to the red wire from the usb, AND the xbox plug). After that, just download the XBCD drivers and you're set (google it). Windows Xp reads it as a usb hub with the controller connected.
Actually, I i thought of it after the fact, but it's probably be smoother to just strip a little bit of plastic off the wires on the controller near the plug and soder the usb plug onto that.

isn't it a little hypocritical to not allow the mention of piracy but endorse mame on the front page?

I thought the same thing...
I'm still going to go boot it up; this article made me reminisce.

Well, "technically" if you already do own the original game, using the ROM shouldn't be an issue. Though I'm sure we know how many people actually do own (or did pay for at one point) the games in question.....
