As reported earlier (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9203), fans started an online petiton to delay the release of Heroes of Might and Magic V so that various issues in the game could be properly addressed. Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/) has updated their story with word from Ubisoft that HOMM V has been delayed. (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6143245.html)

Little did the petitioners know that the project had already been delayed. An Ubisoft representative told GameSpot today that the company had pushed Heroes of Might and Magic V out of the March release window before the beta test even went live. However, the only public indication of this was the game's quiet absence from the company's list of releases planned for the current quarter, which ends March 31. A revised release date for the game is expected next week.

[UPDATE] The Ubisoft representative has since contacted GameSpot, emphasizing that the game's delay was not known about before the launch of the beta testing period.

I'm suspicious. The beta was a failure, a petition goes up to convince the developers to delay the game, and now they announce that the game was already delayed. I think this is a case of CYA after a beta was released too early. On the other hand, I'm glad Ubisoft has done the right thing and decided to wait till the game is ready before releasing.

This is certainly good news if it's gonna make a better game. Speaking of HoMM, I just reinstalled IV to tide me over.

Good to see someone else who likes IV, I had a lot of fun with that one, even if II is my favourite so far.

Same here. I'm sure hc fanbois took a shit on IV but i really started to like it after a while.

There's no denying that the game isn't as good as, say, II and III, but HoMM II and III were among the best games I've ever played, so that's not that surprising. I still really enjoyed IV and spent a lot of time with it. Still am, as my post says. :p I was surprised and pleased to find a Beowulf-themed map!

I agree with the HoMM IV sentiments. I don't know why all the fanboys get up in arms over it. I thought it was plenty fun.

The best part is ya its delayed, but the they wont be working on it either. They're gonna hold the cds for the month that the petition wanted, then ship it out.
