From Xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/community/news/2006/0127-newANZlaunchdates.htm):

Xbox today announced a new launch date in Australia and New Zealand for the Xbox 360™. The new launch date is 12:01am on March 23 2006.
They then go on to tell us how great it is and how they are selling so many units in other countries, just to rub it in.

Gamebiz (http://www.gamebiz.com.au/news8195.html) has this statement:

David McLean from Xbox AU & NZ had this to say: "I can assure you we went to great lengths to s...c...re[w]...the region..."
Okay, I edited that a bit.

Thats a shame... As an Aussie one of many who gets stooged on staged releases
just to provide lovely sales figures boosts in poorer sales times.

When it gets it's "mariokart" just like the DS I will purchase one. The 3 week wait really
doesnt bug me, I remember the midnight pickup for the cube and im sure the Brisbane
city launch will be worthy, I just dont get that feeling that new awesome is coming this generation. Maybe all these articles bagging the damn thing are actually getting to me"
I just want some new games to play allready and the next good mario game.

sigh...

Look at it this way, at least you don't live in Greece.

See, this is why region-free is so great; you can import (at a much higher price, of course) and still enjoy right out of the box. The DS is one such example. If companies stopped raping consumers by region-coding media and hardware, the world (and import stores!) would be much better off.

Maybe they'll get a second version of the hardware that WORKS.

The count at my store is 11 out of 42 bad 360's.

So this is how they reward NZ, which has the highest number of Xbox's sold per capita in the world :(

Yeah, unfortunately, that's not what they're looking at. They're looking at the only 4 million people that live in NZ, compared to other places where, even with a lower per capita, they can still sell more 360s. It sucks...

There really isn't that much hype about this console in the local (Aus) media which is interesting. Couple of competitions here, couple of cross promotions there. Outside of the gaming community, general plebs don't seems to know it's coming, and plebs constitute most of Microsoft's main target market.
HD doesn't really seem to be a selling point to the avergae Australian punter either, as most of them don't even really know what it means.
There isn't as huge a HD push here as there seems to be in the States.
The only thing going for it here is that it's new, and shiny and will play Tony Hawk's and Halo.

Same with Australia, we're way up there in market share.

Nice of MS to fuck us yet again, after Xbox treating us like we actually exist, it seems MS doesn't need us anymore.

Honestly, the only thing about the 360 that interests me so far is the Arcade.
