With the weekend here, I have about 3 days left of my Eve Online trial. This is what I am going to be playing this weekend when I have a few minutes from all the projects that have been set up. I am enjoying the game, and plan on doing a final write up since after day 5 things have gotten interesting. This is definitely a game of great patience will bring great rewards. And the ability not to be doing something every moment. What are you playing this weekend?

Ahh, the weekend. I'll be playing the babysitting game tomorrow while the wifey is doing wife things (baby shower for a friend). It's a pretty sweet game. I also hope to get some AC: WW and Guild Wars in. Some blogging and reading on the side.

Should be fun!

I don't know. I started Tales of Symphonia last weekend but dread getting too involved in an RPG title (I'm trying to write, RPGs break up the motivation). I also swore off RPGs until Grandia III, so I wont be in the middle of a previous commitment when it hits shelves. So, I'll be doing the following:

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition
DS gaming (too many titles to list)
Chipping away at To Kill A Mockingbird
Writing (yeah, right. On a weekend? We'll see.)

I might go through my catalog of games and see what else I could play if I find I don't like Devil May Cry 3 too much.

Man, I just suffered my most serious on-line drubbing.

I'll be playing Silent Hill 2 (long overdue) and Ninja Gaiden. If I have some time left over after homework and work, I might reinstall Rise of Nations or Medieval: Total War.

Well, this weekend I'll primarily be playing, "I have a damn cold, give me more NyQuil kthxbye." Other than that, I'll attempt to play some fast-paced 360 games with the mad skill inducing cold medicine.

Well, I was going to play the PA Auto Assault beta, but my piece of crap laptop won't run it, which is rather dissappointing. Now I don't know what I'm going to play, but what I do know is that I will be getting a new computer as soon as I can afford it.

Well, I just finished playing it for a couple of hours and all I have to say is: "Blah." I can't fathom actually paying a monthly fee for this game. If it operated on the same pay model as guild wars, maybe. The engine seems flawed on about every level. For a game where you are constantly driving around at high speeds (and I presume, higher speeds at higher levels), there is an INCREDIBLE amount of pop-up. The graphics also seem incredibly dark and there is no gamma adjustment that I could find in-game. The concept isn't bad and I've been longing for a post-apocalyptic MMOG for a long time, but not this one for $15/month.

The combat system is a whole other arguement, but I feel bitchy complaining about it after 2 hours. It could be better than what I've experienced.

I plan on hooking up my steering wheel to my desk and not unbolting it until I have to work on Monday to play the heck out of NFS:MW.

For a break I'll play Kameo and continue work on unlocking all the stuff in DOA4.

Guild Wars. Just got into it and I am loving it. An MMORPG that doesn't bore me. Unpossible.

Probably because it isn't a MMORPG.

I'm working through my second playing of ufo:aftershock. Tried on superhero difficulty, but the enemy snipers have no problem one hitting my characters--AND doing so before I can even detect them, so went to veteran level instead. Veteran is turning out pretty easy though, after learning tips and tricks from the first play through.

I might dig out gothic 2 and try that again. Interface was too cumbersome for me last time I checked it.

Animal Crossing: Wild World has its hooks in me, and it's not letting go any time soon. Finally planted some money trees and got a few more types of fruit growing. I might try and finish up Prince of Persia on ps2 - it's been a _long_ time, but I feel bad I never finished it. I also got the random urge to play Mario vs. Donkey Kong, so that's been getting a little 'before bed' playtime.

Um, can someone please make me stop playing WoW? Holy crap I never thought it was going to be so good. After suffering through bland and badly designed MMOGs I had given up on the genre. But now I'm having so much fun, it's damn hard for my wife to pry me away from the computer.

I'm also suffering from Alt-aholism and find myself leveling class after class to 20 see what they are like, lol!

Please explain.

It's just an extended version of the first person sections in the new game. Waves of enemies charge at you and you have at them with your knife. As you rack up combos you get a better score multiplier which is reset if you get hit/don't hit anything for a second or so so you have to time when you take enemies down but make sure they don't vomit/bite you either.

Plus, it's called "master of knifing", which is awesome.

Dang, this has been singing the siren song, drawing me to the rocks. Problem is, something about the postition of my computer keyboard at work is WRECKING my wrists/palms, so I can't really computer game much anymore. Leave it to a health care facility to know anything about ergonomics! Actually, come to think of it, that's exactly who SHOULD know about it. All this logic is hurting my head. As far as the gaming, will work on MKDS 150cc circuits since Metroid Prime Pinball has sort of lost my interst a wee bit. I think I have a touch of pinballosis and just need a trial separation. Also, will see about eBaying my PSP. :o

I used to play WoW a lot. However once the pvp "Honor" system came out. I got my armor then couldn't find anything worth doing. The pvp got so boring in battlegrounds. Also not a lot of good roaming pvpers once that happened. So PvE lost all of its appeal.

Just been playing some Age of Empires III, I'm not very far into it yet. Struggling on an early map like a complete goon. Got a friend coming over later to play some of my more recent Xbox 360 acquisitions, so some two-player Ridge Racer 6 and Dead or Alive are on the cards.

And being a geek among geeks there will probably be some messing around in Flight Sim 2004 at some point today.

I've been playing slowly through Wind Waker for the past month, as in pacing myself, and I've been playing Half-Life 2 for about a month as well. Half-Life 2's progress has been hindered by my father's playing of the game, and school.

I'm playing the Work game for most of the weekend.

If everything is quiet, I'll play some Animal Crossing (No, my gates ARE NOT open) and see about finishing up Phoenix Wright. I'm on Day 3 or 4 of the fifth case so hopefully I will get it finished off soon.

I'm also poking around in Trace Memory (neat little game) and have finally made decent progress in DQ8 again. I'm pushing 60 hours but I finally feel like the story is moving and I'm not just doing pointless grinding.

I'm actually off work Monday and Tuesday so my poor little gnome mage might get some lovin' in WoW if I can get some uninterrupted gaming in those days. I wonder if I can teach my toddler how to play. He can be my own little bot.

Jaded with the industry? Bored because companies release all their games in a 2-3 month window to capitalize on a relgious-turned capitalist holiday, leaving us hungry the rest of the year?

I'm going back to play old games I haven't given much time to. I'm playing Whiplash right now, a game that PETA should enjoy.

Seriously. Every game I try to play lately I quickly lose interest in. I have been sticking to replaying old favorites and finally playing classics lately.

I sit down every once in a while and play some of The Ur-Quan Masters, which is fucking awesome.

I have also just been exploring in X2: The Threat, which has proven to be pretty cool. I was interested in X3 just based on the concept and a friend had a copy of X2 that he had just sitting around. It isn't for everyone, that is for damn sure, but I like it.

Animal Crossing: Wild World here and there. A friend also plays, so I mostly just play when he is around and we can do stuff in each others town, but every once in a while I will sit down for a half hour or so and play by myself.

Yet another weekend where The Movies has totally dominated my time. Have to get that tycoon mode completed, then I can leap right into the sandbox game in whatever era I want. Only problem is my desire to micro-manage .. will take me fricking forever to get through to the end this way. (And some GTA: San An for some less cerebral between-game game breaks. ;) Driving and flying are so different with a PS2-like controller. Fun to try.)

I too. Bored senseless with WoW. No 360 games that I haven't already played to death interest me. I tried to start Half Life 2 over again, but for some reason the damned thing keeps locking up at weird times. So, I've resorted to vodka + Breakshot Billiards + music. So far it's as entertaining as anything else. I wish nintendo would mail my damned component cables as I've been wanting to start Wind Waker over again, but everything looks TERRIBLE on HD w/just the standard composite cables.

It seems the older you get, the more chance for a gaming rut. The games just seem to be the same (no matter what they are) and then you don't play for a few weeks, or just an old game that you liked. Then a game comes out that you were looking forward to, and boom - back into gaming full force. And sometimes, the time off is what brings you back out of your rut.

Ah, you'll love Meteos. It's friggin' digital crack. Maybe I'll fire it up tonight too.

I'm still plugging away at the last case in Phoenix Wright. I MUST FINISH IT THIS WEEKEND! I want to start playing Mario & Luigi: PiT but have been putting it off until I finish Phoenix.

I think I was in a bit of a gaming rut, at least as far as the normal consoles go. My DS has sucked away almost every waking moment that isn't spent working or looking after the baby. It's just such a great little system and the fact that I can take it to work or fire most games up for a quick game session has kept me busy since I got it a month ago. I'm just ticked that I've been falling asleep with the DS in my hand moreso than a book the last few weeks. My reading is falling drastically behind when I have a game system in bed.

It's been a good month or so, since I really got into a game (the last game i really really got into was Shadow Of The Colossus). I mean I've bought like 4 games, and barely played any of them, including Psychonauts. So I'm thinking that it's one of the many things that I'm attempting to deal with, including a wicked case of jelousy, a family member with cancer, and much much more!

Riproar
01-28-2006, 08:32 PM
I don't call these non-gaming times (that we all go through, sometimes) as ruts. The eyes and brain positively need a break from gaming occasionally and as we age (yes, we ALL do) we have to prioritize time much more carefully. This is not a rut! It is real life. We love our games but life happens in the interim. A break from gaming is not a RUT it is NESSESARY!

Lately I’m doing something I never dreamed I’d be doing as an adult;Trying to get a hamster through the 100hm dash. I’m not to proud to say I love the GBA Hamtaro games cart. Doesn’t hurt at all that my wife enjoys it more. And trying to beat each others times’ is more fun than climbing the ladder of events.

Also enjoying WWIIonline. You can just log on and play an exciting quick (or long) battle with much satisfaction. Even as a R (=Recruit) I’m more of a decoy for the better players but I’m hooked (for a few sessions a week at least).

KamaItachi
01-28-2006, 08:51 PM
Riproar, I know what you mean. Sometimes you just need to take a break and go do something else for a week or two.

I find I usually get these periods when I've bought a load of games. I usually end up playing a few of them a bit, then go back to what I was playing before/something else. When I do that, I never feel like I got the most out of any of the games I bought. This generation I've made an absolute resolution to only buy the games I really, really want. I find I get more out of what I already have that way.

Well as Spigot said, Meteos is awesome and it's funny because one reason it's so cool is that a game is maybe 5 minutes. Five...incredibly...frantic minutes and it's, well awesome. The other Q puzzle game, Lumines, is equally as awesome but can take HOURS to finish. And this becomes a problem if you want to, say, stop after 1.5 hours to listen to music. But, hey, you can't without starting over. This type of gameplay that Meteos has is perfect for me these days, as has been mentioned above, the older you get, the less time you have. Sure back when Dragon Warrior was out (notice no number on the end of that), I could sit around for hours and just level up and it was great. So much for growing up! Hey speaking of growing older and paying bills, Nook is gonna expand my house tomorrow, make that today! Woohoo!!!

Edit-Looking at Spigot's post again, I still think fondly of the characters in Phoenix Wright and am sad it's over. :( Maybe I'll replay it someday even though there is zero replay value.

I'm on the final day of the last trial and I agree. Phoenix Wright has some of the best characters in any of the games I've played lately.

Glad you like Meteos. The sheer amount of unlockables is amazing and they are dished out at a pretty decent rate.
