Warhammer: Mark of Chaos, developed by Black Hole Entertainment, is a revolutionary real-time strategy game set in the renowned Warhammer world, featuring epic battles within massive landscapes, while offering an astounding level of detail, from a bird's eye view down to the insignias on a warrior's armor.

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos puts the focus squarely on the battlefield with a real-time combat system that gives the player unprecedented customization and control of his army. An epic battle rages following a brutal Chaos invasion, where four fully playable armies (Empire, Chaos, Skaven, and High Elves) as well as additional controllable races (Orcs, Dwarfs, Vampires, and Goblins) clash on a massive battlefield. Additional features of the game include fully customizable units and maps, and a variety of play modes and multiplayer options.

Woohoo!

Finally a 'sequel' to the massively under-appreciated Dark Omen (and Shadow of the Horned Rat)

I am upgrading my Ram to 1024 (might go all the way and upgrade to 2GB, not sure), and I am looking at a Geforce 7800 GT, so I should be geared up to enter the new year.

I’m extremely interested in this game.
Looks like a WH Fantasy version of Total War with better graphics, which is just about the perfect game as far as I can figure.

Go for 2 gigs. I got a GF7800 GT, and had 1 gig of ram. I cranked up the details for BF2 and it ran ok, until it had to load a new set of textures, at which point it'd choke bad. 2 gigs isn't overkill, nowadays, and it's cheaper in the long run. You won't regret it.

What can I say? I fucking LOVE RTS! Imagine how it's been for the past, what, 6-7 years?

Pardon my ignorance, but does this have anything to do with Warhammer 40k?

The original tabletop was made by the same company. Regular Warhammer is a game set in your "typical" fantasy setting. While Warhammer 40k is a super futuristic setting (40k years in the future).

40k years in the future, but with the same universe, with orks and stuff?

40k years in the future, but with the same universe, with orks and stuff? There's a theory that WH Fantasy is actually in the future of 40k and takes place on a strange planet where Eldar and all the rest of the races populated (cuz it ain't earth; how did humans and all these other races get there?). This is thought of because of the presence of Chaos (which was created after the Eldar screwed up), and the slaan, which were an ancient frog race from Rogue Trader. And orcs in the WH40k universe were actually created by the Slaan as a labor force.

Anyway it doesn't make much difference, GW probably hasn't put much thought into it. There's Orcs in 40k, as well as space elves (Eldar), dark space elves (Dark Eldar), dwarves (Squats), and the whole shebang.

It's probably simplest to think of them as two seperate games/systems that just happen to have some crossover in the background.

Warhammer = Fantasy

Warhammer 40 000 = Sci-Fi/Futuristic

Awesome. I'm so pumped. I've played in a couple Warhammer FRP campaigns and I think it's a great universe to build a game within.

The 40K-as-future-of-Warhammer theory holds little water among most of the community. Basically, when making 40K Games Workshop used a bunch of familiar elements, but since 40K is based on the real-world to a degree (Earth is the base of the Imperium, and it shares our history), and there's only one world in Warhammer fantasy (which is certainly not Earth) it's pretty much impossible. Although they have done some crossover--for example, the books about the Chaos gods, while based in Warhammer Fantasy, have parts where the narrator has 'visions' of Chaos Space Marines from 40K.

Theoretically, Warhammer Fantasy could be a demon world in the 40K universe in the Eye of Terror (a warp/realspace overlap), but it's most probable that they're treated as parallel universes, if very loosely treated.

Also, because both settings deal heavily in archetypes they are quite similar; humans in each setting worship the Emperor, and the world is decidedly Gothic (government is totalitarian and corrupt in both).
