A post by id Software's Peter Sokal on the official Wolfenstein Forums (http://www.wolfenstein.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=773) confirms that an early build of the Wolfenstein multiplayer has leaked to torrent sites.

It was brought to our attention on Friday, 7/31 that a build of the Wolfenstein Multiplayer was leaked and is now being distributed illegally through breach of NDA and mirrors posted on the internet. I must warn anyone involved that Activision’s legal department is taking this matter very seriously.

Same applies here on the forums. If you mention that you have acquired this build, you are openly admitting to illegally obtaining the build and will be banned straight away. You have been warned.

With regards to any footage, screenshots and comments posted here and all over the internet, an important thing to keep in mind is that these were not created from a build of the game that was final or consumer ready. There’s nothing we can do about it now except continue working on the game.

Wolfenstein has been designed to retain elements that are the core of the Wolfenstein multiplayer experience, such as distinct classes and objective-based teamplay. We are also introducing new elements to the game with the Veil powers and persistent upgrades. After release we’ll make our SDK available, as well as release updates to address feedback from the competitive community.

We look forward to seeing you online upon release.

I remember when this happened to UT2k3. A friend of mine who was a huge UT fan had picked up the alpha build & was messing around with it.

All I can say is that it ran awful, was buggy as heck... and the final product was nowhere near what he had on his computer.

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for the folks who are working on the title.

look at some of the beta [game released next month] screenshots and you'll realize who the real criminals are.

If this is as fun as RTCW I'm in! Of any FPS multiplayer I've ever given 400+ hours too, RTCW was the most fun I. Of course that was like 6 years ago and online games have kinda changed a bit. A variety of classes or perks are now standard issue and we've got way more game types than just CTF or Deathmatch. I'll keep my fingers crossed though, I've got high hopes for the online...in case you couldn't tell.

well i looked it up on youtube and if the title was to be believed, it looked like an ancient ancient build. like RTCW1 engine proof of concept type stuff. not lining up to the promotional screenshots at all.

sure, if you want to fart around on a deserted server with a game that looks less compellinng than say, Quake Wars, be my guest. It doesnt seem like there would be much point to it though.

I haven't looked up the leak on YouTube, but I can say that all of the promotional videos and screenshots that have been released by Activision look about the same quality as RTCW1. They look 'last generation'.

This has looked like a 2nd tier bargain-bin-bound title since it was announced.

I feel bad for the people working on it since I think it is going to get savaged in the reviews.

I played it a few days ago and all I can say is they better hope it's an old build.

I'll take a graphically (albeit minor) update to RTCW any day. I remain fairly optimistic.

Also, I think the setting is going to be great!
