View Full Version : Monkey Ball Adventure due summer 2006
Sega has officially announced Super Monkey Ball Adventure (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/nid/1570/2167/) for the PlayStation 2, PSP and Nintendo GameCube.
Super Monkey Ball is one of the most loved original franchises of the last five years, but it's about to change. Super Monkey Ball Adventure features new platform-based gameplay and a story-driven narrative. Not wanting to leave traditional Monkey Ball fans in the cold, 50 new puzzles and six mini-games will also be included as part of the package.

Hmmm....
Bad call, me thinks.
Monkey Ball 1 & 2 were the reason my GameCube got more play than my other two consoles for well over a year. Between Monkey Target, Bowling, Racing and Boxing, those games had party games pretty well covered.

Monkey Ball is great! I'll definitely be picking this up for the Cube when it comes out.

Those screens actually look really cool. You apparently can open up the ball to glide, likein Monkey Launch and the level designs (what little you can see in those screens) looks very cool. It's kind of like Billy Hatcher... only maybe good this time...

Yes, Monkey Ball was great.
However, this is a platformer based on Monkey Ball. Sega hasn't been making great platformers for a while now.

The story and cutscenes from SMB2 were testicle shatteringly horrible. And this Adventure is going to have an even more "story-driven narrative"? Yikes...

"Story Driven"? YES! Finally, my tears which have flowed unhindered since the awe-inspiring ending of Super Monkey Ball 2, will be allowed to cease! Finally, my heart shall have answers! I shall finally know what happened to, um, Aiai and what's-his-face and the fat monkey! The legend shall be finished, and, the, um, Dr. Bad-Boon (such poetry!) shall reap what he hath sown!
Oh, delight! To have such treats bestowed! The legend of the balls of the monkeys will continue!
Edit: and I almost forgot, they'll have another opportunity to chant their magical spell of "Ei-Ei-Poo!"
Yes, their magical spell is stupid, and yes the plot is irritating and mildly retarded... but the gameplay of SMB 1 + 2 were impeccable IMO. Depending on how the platforming aspects turn out, this could be really cool.

Monkey ball was Cool, that fat monkey and the little one will totally rock in their own game. They should release it over XBLA for like 15$ and they would rule the world....
But what´s up with their ears?

Lets take a a gamecube exclusive party game and make it a multi-platform platformer adventure?
Even if they make the best platformer of all time, they'll have still disappointed the fans of the first two, it would seem.
if I started scratching my head to figure out this move, I might end up bald.

Well, they did port the first two games to PS2, Xbox, and PSP, so it's not like this is terribly surprising.
