Straight from the Steam News Blog (http://store.steampowered.com/news/2708/):

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale.

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

It looks like the nerd whaaaaaaaaambulance delivers results. You can either assume the delivery of a leaner L4D2 experience as a result, or operate under the assumption that this DLC had been planned all along. :D Either way, sound the nerd sirens: "Wheeeeeee-oooooooo!"

Either way, more Left 4 Dead is good.

...the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns.Meaning they had no plans to create this and had to rush it out the door as a result of their L4D2 fiasco.

In any case, more content is good. Still doesn't resolve the issue of a fractured community, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see what else they have planned.

Welp, right now depending on skill of players... in order to get through a full campaign in VS takes anywhere from 1h15m - 2h. A 30 minute campaign is a welcome addition.

Yeah, this is actually what i was thinking. my L4D lately has mostly been limited to survival simply because the time constraints are much easier for me at the moment.

I welcome the idea of mini-episodes.

I suppose there is that. I guess that could be why I rarely play L4D on week days.

Not that there is anything preventing people from playing for a single map currently, which would equate to roughly the same amount of play time.

I think the idea of a smaller episode is a great idea, as often I don't feel like working all the way through one of the current episodes. 30 minutes would be just right for a change of pace.

30 minutes is half a campaign, not sure why you guys would prefer that over a full blown campaign. Did you know you can load from any one of the 5 chapters?

If internet rage can somehow speed up Valve development time, shouldn't the brouhaha over the HL2 leak and delay caused enough acceleration of work to actually push the release date back in time?

They did say 30 minutes for a versus campaign. I dunno if that applies to the single player/co-op play time.

Versus campaigns tend to go MUCH longer than singleplayer campaigns if both teams somehow make it to the end of each set.

Petitions don't work.

You have to whine and complain.
It works.

If whining caused Valve to do this, why don't people start whining and petitioning for HL2 Episode 3?

Crash Course is a synonym for "rush job". Why aren't more people picking up on this?

It's half the size of a normal campaign. But Valve insists they're doing me a favor. I purchased this game under the assumption it was a finished product with (developer promised) significant DLC.

While technically, Valve delivered, I don't feel they went out of their way to make me feel good about my purchase. I'm not trying to be emo about this, but I won't eat the slop Valve seems to want to serve and call it Lobster, as the rest of the internet seems content to do. Less isn't more. MORE is more. Two chapters is three maps shy of a campaign.

They have lots of time to finish up L4D2 though. All new campaigns. All new purchase.

No - sorry - I expected versus mode available in all four maps (didn't happen for 6 months). I also expected significant DLC, which was certainly promised.

Was it delivered? That can be debated, but I fall on the "No" side of things.

But it was clearly stated ahead of release that only two of the campaigns had versus at launch.

Isn't the content free? Sweet jesus, you people can complain about everything. Don't download it. Don't buy it if they charge for it.

Or god forbid, PLAY SOMETHING ELSE.

I don't think Valve ever promised to satisfy your narcissism.

The only reason people whine so hard about stuff like this is that they love the game. Otherwise they wouldn't spend hours on forums raging about it, and would go do something else. So the constant whining about L4D2 and DLC should point out what a success L4D is. Go Valve, may your forums always be full of complainers crying out for more. ;)
