View Full Version : Condemned PC a Bit of an Ugly Duckling
Sega has released 21 new screens of the PC version of Condemned, but unlike the rather great looking Xbox 360 version, these PC screens look like they fell from the ugly tree.

Well, now PC owners are the new PS2 owners... low-res textures / models.

Actually this doesn't show that the PC is less powerful... It just shows that the developers are greedy, lazy bastards.

I think Deus Ex 2 is still by far the pinnacle of lazy dual development processes.

It's not like they can't make the game look the same for the PC - it's using the same bloody Jupiter 2.0 engine as F.E.A.R. and we all know how great that can look when it's cranked to the max.

A "bit" of an ugly duckling?
You sir, Have a very impressive talent for understatement. Looking at those screenshots was like seeing wrinkly old grandma boobies.
That makes me sad, especially considering those screens were probubly from an E-Peen enhancing wonder computer. And the game will still probubly run like poopie.

I think all games that limit themselves to only shades of gray look like crap no matter how snazzy their other features might be. This is real trend for fps games.
Gray + grayish green + grayish brown + grayish red + grayish yellow = looks like shit.

It doesn't help that Pro G scales all their screen shots to 800x600 or less, but yes, those do look ugly.

They look about the same as on my standard def TV. But you know, it still plays great. Good scare all around, at least for me. I guess it is really more a sense of tension than fear, really, but it is still a blast.

OMG they ruined the game!! I can't believe it doesn't look BETTER on the PC then the 360. These look like shit!
I'm almost sure they've been told by *** to downgrade those graphics so as not to outshine the 360!.. Ya .. I said it. I wouldn't put it past them.

Eh...Condemned for the 360 doesn't REALLY look all that great either guys, even on a huge 1080p set. I feel like the game tries to go too gritty in all scenes, and the drab colors really bother me. I would be equally as scared if developers moved away from the dilapidated office building scheme and went to freakier settings like the circus funhouse from Max Payne II. Now THAT was freaky.
Heh, and someone should sue the goddamn plumber in the buildings featured in Condemned. I mean...WHO RUNS COPPER PIPING THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF EVERY OFFICE?!

I think these screens were taken at a 640x480 res or something.

Hey, all of these screenshot appear to be rendered in 640x480.
Maybe they have all the pixel shading, bumpmapping, shadows and FSAA turned off too.
The real question is, why put out screenshots at all?

I totally posted at the exact same time, not a ripoff i swear.
If you look at the windows and lines going horizontal there are huge very distict pixel offset issues you normally see at low resolutions.

Well..let's hope that's the case.. because I was really looking forward to this on my rig. It does look like they have it set on Medium texture res. I remember the shots from 360 had more 'gloss' on them and the texture rez was bumpped up near HL2 quality.
But.. why would they cripple the screenshots to 'show off the game' ??? .. I have a bad feeling about this...

"Hey guys, I got to get this marketing shit out, so turn off all the shaders, HDR, self shadowing, etc, and take me some screens of the game running at lowest possible res. We want people to think we're targeting System Shock!"

I hope you all have fun with your copies of 50 Cent BulletproofBecause obviously, if one thinks graphics are important, one also thinks that gameplay is an obsolete concept that should be eliminated entirely, and is eagerly awaiting their copy of some bullshit hiphopper's monument to himself.
Or maybe it's actually possible to value both? This thread's about screenshots, and those lend themselves to showing off graphics rather than gameplay. Hence the discussion of graphics.
Yeah, don't feed the trolls and all that, I know.

Haven't you heard? The PC version of FEAR was just a dumbed down port of the true version of FEAR made for the 360.
And for those dismissing the importance of graphics in condemned, the main gameplay hook is the intense atmosphere of the game (same as FEAR) primarily driven by the graphics. The graphics in the game help keep the suspension of disbelief, so you get more absorbed into the game. At least this has been my experience. I'm hoping they either clean up the PC version, or I can find a 360 soon.
Man, I just want to beat some hobos.

All system preferences aside, the reason I didn't buy the 360 is because they don't have now nor are there any titles announced that I know won't be ported to PC that I have to play.
That's why you get a console. Don't care about ports one way or another. Halo, for instance, on PC was total shit. But then, there are 500 better FPS titles that Xbox owners at the time had never seen.

I have a speculation (Drumroll) ...these could have been taken from a preview copy given to the site editors running on PCs that werent perhaps configged to show full IQ of the game?
I mean, check the TCoR video review at gamespot.com......they get a worse framerate than I did on my old Athlon xp 2000... :(
Having finished both Condenmed on the 360 and FEAR on my PC with a 7800 GTX, I can say that they both will port fairly well.
I'm holding my judgement till I see some higher res shots taken from the game running on a known PC. It's my guess the game will look damn near identical on both systems (ditto for the FEAR to 360 port).

Hello fill-rate bound PC setup. Xenos is far ahead of PCs in that dept. Also, the game has never looked great in screenshots, in motion it's completely different.

Maybe they've got a dedicated screenshot pc, one they've not updated in 10 years?
A game with an average ranking of 83 percent(inflated release rankings due to limited library even, lol)isn't something to get excited about, regardless of what they port it to.

Too bad every good 360 game has already been put out on PC. With Microsoft's coming Windows Live service and their proven inability to keep "XBOX Only" titles only on Xbox, there is a ton of money to be made on the PC market. Since the 360 is a current gen gaming rig PC, it's only natural that we will see omni-releases for 360 and PC.
But give it 2 years and the 360 will be as outmoded as the current XBox is to our modern PCs. The reason why they are having a hard time with the hardware is because they are selling PCs, mass produced, at significantly below cost.
As far as graphics go, framerate on the 360 seems better than a higher end gaming PC right now. The antialiasing and max resolution and light sourcing though is already sub-NV7800 par.

ehh i was kinda making generalizations to satisfy the pros of the 360. Quake 4 is an exception, because it made a really really bad port.
