View Full Version : Prey Developed Without 360 Dev Kit?

VE3D (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/683/683225p1.html) points to Scott Miller's Blog (http://dukenukem.typepad.com/game_matters/2006/01/and_so_we_meet_.html) from 3D Realms. In it Scott States that they've yet to get their hands on a 360 development kit for Prey.
Many people have asked me to comment about the next-gen consoles, and frankly I have nothing enlightened to say. I've yet to touch the controller of any of them. I can't find a X360 to buy in stores, and we have yet to get a development machine sent from Microsoft even though Prey is being developed for their system.
I gotta wonder about this though. Human Head (http://www.humanhead.com/) is doing the actual development of Prey. My guess is they have their hands on the development kits and 3D Realms has yet to get their hands on one. If not...something is severely wrong at Microsoft.
Update: Just got word from someone at Human Head. Human Head does have dev kits and the port is being well handled.

Who the FUCK cares if Scott Miller has his hands on a dev kit for the 360? He has his hands on working PC computers and STILL can't get a game out the damn door in under 7 years of development time.
Scott Miller isn't working on Prey (THANK GOD), and I'd be very suprised if the Human Head developers have not been working with dev kits.

Please don't flame me, this is a serious question:
so was *all* Prey media from the PC version? Or does HH actually own 360's dev kits?

I don't think we have an answer to that Borys. But from the looks of the game I would think that its going to be a PC game first and a console port second.

I wonder if any HH devs visit the boards. If so can ya guys shoot me a PM regarding this, or leave a message here to let us know.

I read the article and it sounds to me like a case of sour grapes on Miller's part.

...and I'm sure all their developers are twiddling their thumbs waiting for the Development kit to arrive, while they boil their special DNF coffee and sift the vapours in to plastic packages for shipping soon to come in the year when armargeddon strikes.
Seriously, I really think that Prey will ship first before any other game from them... Wait Prey isn't actually from them.

The last time I checked, I thought the developers were the ones who actually made the game. 3D Realms is just producing the damn thing...so why would they need a dev kit, anyway?

3D Realms is just publishing it, right? That means they might handle the bug testing responsibilities and make up the packaging and make deals with Wal-mart to distribute it. Human Head just sits and codes. They have to have dev kits to do anything or else it is all theoretical. I'd assume they do. But we all know what that does.

MS should just support developers with better credibility in releasing game on time. If 3DRealms won't develop for X360 over not getting X360 kits, screw them.

I was both honored by the the recognition from a developer, and horrified that it was from George Broussard. He's almost certainly gotten sick of hearing jokes about Duke Nukem Forever and left.
edit: oops you said HH, not 3D Realms :(

Well since there's a 360 trailer on the Prey website, I'm going to have to say Human Head most likely has 360 dev kits :) As for 3DRealms, screw em'.

That's not saying much. Nowhere did I see a "press A/B/X/Y/L/R" etc. messasge so it could be very well from a PC version. There's even a PC-DVD logo at the end.
And yes I downloaded the "Prey 360 Trailer (14MB WMV)".
That's why I asked my question.

I guess I assumed it was really the 360 trailer and not the PC version because it says "Xbox 360 trailer". I suppose I could start distrusting everything I see on official web sites for games ;)
Who gives a fuck about scott miller tho? Duke Nukem forever is like a decade late. Tell me where that is, not a 360 development kit, of course he doesn't have one, he's not making Prey.

Poor Scott Miller - doesn't have a dev kit of his own so he writes a sulky entry in his blog... These are real tears I weep.

Of course 3D Realms doesn't have a 360 dev kit.
They only give those to game developers!

I just read his blog. Listen to the hipocrite:
"E3 decides to focus on games! It's about time. If we're going to be taken seriously as a maturing industry, it only makes sense to drop the soft porn geek fantasies and make games the thing. Two thoughts: One, getting around E3 has been a nightmare if you ever needed to pass a booth with scantily clad booth dancing dolls drawing a feverish crowd of camera flashing boys. Two, and I love this one the most... Games with no game will finally have no crowd."
This is coming from a man that had NO game to show, and ONLY used booth babes as a way to lure press over to the 3dR booths in E3's past shows.
They showed DNF at E3 like 3 times, and they were notorious for their booth babes...
LOL What a jackass Miller is...

3D Realms hasn't even gotten a Windows based game developed and onto the shelfs. The last game (Duke Nukem 3D) was DOS.
Please wake me when anyone at 3D Realms has any right to say anything relevent about video gaming. Which of course won't happen unless they pull their heads out of their asses and ... you know ... put a game out within this decade?
