Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/) reports that Nintendo's WiFi Connection has hit 3 million connections (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62600).
The number of connections to Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection online service has topped three million worldwide, according to the company's UK general manager David Yarnton, who revealed the figure at an event in London this afternoon. That's thought to represent more than half a million actual users.
Later in the article, Yarnton claims 3 million players, so I'm not really sure what's going on with their math. Good news either way though.

Doesn't each DS have a unique serial number of sorts that is used when connecting to their wifi network? Hence, 3 million connections = 3 million users.

3 million connections, meaning people have connected 3 million times. Nintendo is better at this fuzzy math than *** man.

I doubt that, though. So far, there are over 3 million copies of Animal Crossing sold, and the impression I get is that people are connecting fairly frequently. They could be counting people who own multiple WiFi games twice, though.

..and they are all here making threads that I will not name.

He's a PR guy who got mixed up.
It's 3 million times people have connected to the network, but only 1 million unique users. At least that's what Reggie said less than a month ago, and there's no way it's grown by 2 million users in that time period.

So each unique user owns 3 wifi games? Or each user has connected an average of 3 times?
Neither seems very plausible.

I've connected to Nintendo WiFi many times with Animal Crossing. It would "only" take about 100,000 folks like me to account for three million connections if they're counting each "logon" as a separate item.

Between all the online titles, 3 million connections sounds about right. There are regularly 30,000 people connected to Socom FireTeam Bravo in a single evening, so 3 million connections over 4 or 5 titles sounds accurate.

I had a friend in Chicago come into my town last night and dig up my golden shovel for me :) She brought me oranges.

There are only two online titles though - Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. Unless I missed some, which is entirely plausible.

Tony Hawk has online capabilities too, but you can only play against one other person at a time. It is suprisingly fun tho, and you can typically find a game fairly easily.
On a side note, where are you at in the Twin Cities? I am on the West Side of St. Paul, but I used to live on 49th and 3rd over in Minne.

I've only had a chance to play Mario Kart DS online 5 times since I don't have my own wireless network. I'm sure there are a lot of people who similarly haven't had many opportunities.
I just know Reggie said earlier this month that they'd had 1 million users on Wi-Fi (which is still impressive, achieving in 6 weeks what took the Xbox 5 months).

If you take a look at the news pieces over at www.nintendowifi.com you'll find that the 3 million connections were from Nov. 24 to Dec. 12 (the date of the news post).
They also have a little flash animation on the main page bandying, .5 million users and 10 million connections. Which i'm assuming is since inception. No idea when that animation was posted.
