Bethesda has secured the rights to publish a series of Star Trek games on all platforms. To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the series, Bethesda is planning to release Star Trek: Legacy for Xbox 360 and PC, as well as Star Trek: Tactical Assault for NDS and PSP.

I remeber some Away Team one that people liked. Last Star Trek game I played with the 25th anniversary edition, which was a Star Trek original series adventure game.

The DS one sounds great! Tactical Star Fleet Battles using the touch screen to route power to shields or weapons. Sweet!

While I am sure the Trek and RTS fans should be getting a tingle over this news, I for one would have liked to hear that they had taken a Oblivion type open ended RPG and placed it inside the Star Trek universe. But I doubt we will see something like that come from them, considering the developement time and funding that needs to go into those type of projects. I'm not sure something like that would have enough mass market appeal to get greenlighted.

There is a Star Trek MMORPG in the works.

If an open-ended sandbox-like space RPG is gonna get done, it should be in the Firefly universe.

I have no interest in YET ANOTHER Star Trek RTS game. What is this, Starfleet Command 1-3 and ST: Armada 1 & 2 - you don't think FIVE RTS games on a license is enough?

Give me Star Trek Episode Creator (a la The Movies) any day. I'll show Berman and his moron yes-men how to make a decent storyline.

Legacy sounds a bit like Star Trek: Homeworld to me. Could be darn interesting if they pull it off right.

Heh, one can easily see the portable screenshots are from the DS version (blocky, unfiltered textures), I wonder how the PSP version is doing...

O_o

Can't agree on that. Firefly makes a fantastic TV show (And a decent movie), but that's it. What would you do? Where would you go? I'm assuming you would want to play as Mal and have interaction with the crew, but that's just a tv episode. I'll stick to the comics for that. I'd want more out of a game.

In other news, Star Trek 25th anniversary was awesome.

In other other news, I really hope Bethesda becomes a powerful brand name in the industry and they leverage it to bring out more RPG/Strategy games. I'm convinced that most gamers are idiots and just don't know what they want. They'll buy something dumb like 50cent Bulletproof or Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude and sell it within a day en masse, so clearly they don't LIKE those games. Meanwhile games with real gameplay are being ignored and lost.

Sorry, but no.

Those are the PSP shots. Note the wide screen aspect ratio and resolution.

Assy? Yes, but not due to being on the DS.

Star Trek: Legacy is being developed at the studios of Mad Doc Software, creators of the highly successful and critically acclaimed Star Trek Armada II.

I was under the impression that the "acclaim" that critics had for Star Trek Armada II was that the game was total and complete crap.

Most of the reviews I see online rated the game in the 50% - 70% range. That is pretty poor and the description of Star Trek: Legacy just sounds like a console verison of Star Trek Armada III, which I doubt anyone wants.

Now, a console version of Starfleet Command IV, without all of Taldren's horrible show-stopping bugs would be cool, but Armada III? Meh.

Tactical Assault looks like a Starfleet Command port, which wouldn't hurt my feelings any. I loved the first two games (#3 was really kind of bland after the dumbing-down it got saddled with). I'd love some of that on the PSP if they can get the interface right.
