My wife gave me some spending money and I want to get the most bang for my buck. I am thinking Mass Effect so I can play through it before number 2 comes out. Any other suggestions?

Lost Odyssey.

I loved it and got 50 odd hours out of a reasonably thorough play through. Mass Effect is a great game but if you want length then I'd suggest you go for Odyssey.

Oblivion. $20 for 200+ hours of gaming.

It's better on PC, however, with the mods.

I had a ball with Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

That being said, Oblivion is the better option. Mass Effect was probably my favourite of the above options. Orange box was also a good suggestion, if you haven't played Half-Life 2. Lost Odyssey is a great game for JRPG lovers only.

Burnout Paradise is also quite cheap if you know where to look.

This is possibly the best value in 360 gaming:

Bioshock & The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Bundle (http://www.amazon.com/Bioshock-Elder-Scrolls-Oblivion-Xbox-360/dp/B0028IBTPC)

Though it's a bit more than your $20 limit.

^^That is a very awesome bundle.
Be sure to give Mass Effect a go through when you can.
It's also a really great game.

The only problem is that version of Oblivion doesn't include the expansions, and they're well worth having. If Oblivion is on the plate, I'd get the stand-alone Game of the Year edition. Besides, I believe you can find Bioshock for ten bucks if you look hard enough, making it $30 for Bioshock and the GotY version of Oblivion.

Tales of Vesperia can be had for $20ish used and it will easily last you a good 80+ hours.

I'd have to say Oblivion GOTY edition though, if you haven't played it yet.

I forgot Burnout Paradise - almost infinite.

Bunch of people in Glasgow did a 24hr Burnout Paradise session for the Guiness Book of Records.

Where are you guys find Oblivion GOTY edition for 20 bucks? I still find it for 29.99.

Yeah, I think the answer to the question as you stated it is definitely "The Orange Box"

Besides, if you don't already own it, it's a must have.

$19.49 at Amazon, on the PC. (http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-IV-Oblivion-Game-Pc/dp/B000V9C9FO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1248570404&sr=8-2) Playing Oblivion on a console crimps the experience, as the mods are absolutely abundant and incredible for the game. On the 360, it's $27.99. (http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-IV-Oblivion-Xbox-360/dp/B000TG72PG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1248570718&sr=8-1) Console games are almost always around ten bucks more.

I buy my PC games from two sources: Steam and Amazon. Just about any purchase over $25 at Amazon gets free shipping if you're willing to wait a week or two for delivery. I rarely purchase stuff online anywhere other than Amazon, actually. Hell...I got a five-bike rack for my truck there for $70 less than a brick-and-mortar store, with free shipping and if memory serves, no sales tax.

Amazon. It's awesome.

I loved Lost Odyssey, still hoping to hear some more news from Mistwalker. I got over 87 hours on that, finishing nearly everything. My vote would probably go with Mass Effect (especially if you think you will like it, you will). You can easily play this game several times as various combination's of characters, all of which will be used in the upcoming awesome sequel.
I support Oblivion on the PC. With a few mods, the game is brilliant. And I'll throw a little love towards Tales of Vesperia. Great game.

The news is that CryOn got cancelled but that they are doing Blue Dragon 2. Disappointing huh?

Lost Odyssey was a pretty self-contained story I guess but BD was dull.

Earth Defense Force 2017 - If you've seen Godzilla movies, this is the game where you get to play one of the guys running around on the ground fighting enormous monsters. It is incredible fun and is probably the most overlooked (and yet awesome) title on the 360. Even at launch it was only $40 so it must be super cheap now.

Project Sylpheed - did you like Colony Wars? Do you not hate anime? This is a space sim like Colony Wars with an overwraught anime storyline.

Good suggestions from other people I would have included
Mass Effect
Lost Odyssey
Oblivion
Burnout: Paradise
Dead Rising

If you can get them for $20:
The Orange Box
Fable 2

Fry's had GTA IV for $20 a couple weeks ago. I think its back up to $30 now.

Right. I saw Bully for $20 at Best Buy a while back too. Definitely worth it at that price (if you didn't beat it on PS2 already).

Dead Rising or Crackdown, I think Crackdown may still be $10 on new egg

dead rising was a good suggestion it has quite a few replays in it if you want to get all the achievements and general fun. mass effect likewise is an awesome game i own it myself and it has quite a few replays although i cant see there being anymore than about 100 hours gameplay max.

The Orange Box

PC version of Orange Box is far superior for all the free content. And it [I]can[I] run on even old PCs. Waiting for a weekend Steam sale makes it all the cheaper too.

I'm definitely going to have to say Mass Effect. Such a great game, and with the sequel looking as great as it is, you'll have a great time. There's one piece of DLC you can get, but I haven't touched it so I can't say much about it.
