Halo 3: ODST will run at the same resolution as the original Halo 3, 1152x640, which is below 720p standards.
When asked about the game's resolution, Bakken confirmed it would be:
"The same as Halo 3."
So, less than 1280x720?
"Yes, exactly."

Halo doesn't need to be in HD to be a great game.
Didn't people have to blow up a screenshot and pixel count to find out that Halo 3 wasn't HD to begin with (or was that a different game)? It seems to me that if you can't tell by looking at it normally, then it doesn't matter. Maybe that's just me.

Lol. The dude seems really tired actually.
You will take it the way we did it before. And you will like it.

Halo 3 wasn't really a graphically banging game to begin with so, no issues there.

Halo doesn't need to be in HD to be a great game.
Nor a great-looking one.

I could. I thought it was pretty obvious that it wasn't in HD. But, I'm not a Halo fan, nor a hater, so it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

Meh, being a computer gamer primarily, if you sat me in front of the TV with a 360 attached and popped in and played ODST, I'd probably say,
"Can't you turn it up"? "It looks like shit"!
But then again, if you say a primarily console player in front of the same setup, they'd probably say,
"Dude"! "Sweet"!
Halo doesn't need to be in HD to be a great game.

Spoken like a Wii owner!
Hopefully it has a decent single-player game then. Halo 3 was the definition of average single-player FPS gameplay.
Online it was, and remains, an entirely different matter.

I guess 360 users have gotten used to "good-enough" from the Xbox "experience" by now: from their randomly-breaking hardware to the random ads on their paid-XBL service, a AAA 360 title where devs are only putting in B-effort will still end up selling like hotcakes.

"Bend over and be glad there are fewer pixels for me to ram up there, bud!"
Counting pixels is retarded, in my book. The day I have to count the pixels to determine whether I enjoy a game or not is the day I quit the hobby.

Halo 3 never was visually impressive, pretty sad though that one of MS favorite studios cant wring out 720p at least by now. Since I game on a large screen HDTV, I do want my games to look as good as they can, because the faults tend to be glaring.

Halo 3 looks more pixelated and jaggied than any other console game I own, by far. And yes, I find that these visual blemishes downgrade the overall visual quality quite a bit.
And as far as people only counting pixels or being overly concerned about resolution: Metal Gear Solid 4 also runs in sub-HD but uses a lot of filtering effects and anti-aliasing to make the visuals silky smooth. It looks almost flawless at times as far as jaggies are concerned. I have no problem with it.

Really...I'm serious. Where the hell is THAT thread?
so upconvert it to 1080p with your TV's scaler.
end.

Correction, Halo doesn't need to be in HD to be a mediocre game.

I think you have an extreme misunderstanding of what "upconverting" does.

yeah, i guess that's why i have a $5,000 60" native 1080p display right beside me.
you know as well as i that upconverting is not a true, native 1080p signal, but it doesn't affect how awesome the game already looks. what you probably don't realize is that neither the 360 or PS3 has the on-board memory available to do games like ODST in native 1080p/60 or even 30fps.
everyone on forums are know it alls, i swear.

I'm very aware that the 360 and the PS3 don't have the poewr necessary to do a game like ODST in 1080p. They don't even have the power to do it in 720p, hence why this entire topic exists.
Upconverting is just pixel size resampling, it does not magically make the game run in 1080p, it's still running in 648p or whatever the hell it is and applies a few algorithms so that the pixel stretching isn't as obvious when it uses all the 1080p pixels.
You can upconvert from 480p, but the actual quality of the original doesn't improve at all - it's impossible. It reminds me of those shows where they somehow have infinite zoom on footage taken from a low quality security feed. The amount of pixels taken in the original cannot be improved, although it can be somewhat intelligently guessed.

exactly, you cant create detail where it doesnt exist, in the case up upscaling the picture would look "soft" or "fuzzy" instead of god awful pixellated.
You know I think my issue with this is more with Microsoft.
Yes Bungie are an 'independent' entity now but Microsoft has a massive input into this title. Every electronics company bar Nintendo is selling this 'HD is worth it' line. A Microsoft published title that doesn't support it just makes the whole situation seem like a con.
The same goes for the Blu-rays that run in 576p. Bangkok Dangerous as an example.

Yeah, isn't the "next-gen" gaming HD crap supposed to be big for MS?

Yeah, Sony is guilty of this as well. They said every game would run in 1080p on their console because it was the second coming of Jesus.

This might be true but is completely meaningless since having large environments, fast gameplay and smooth MP is what Halo is about, rather than being about a highly textured and detail environment (since the environment is complete fiction).
What is also true is that the fanboism in this thread, from at least three sides, is being broadcast in a million80p;).

I guess everyone has forgotten that Halo 3 was at this same resolution, and no one knew till Bungie said so. So all you dumbasses that think you can tell the difference, please sit the fuck back down.
