Thanks to TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com) for the head's-up (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10100/Marc-Eckos-Getting-Up-Goes-Gold/).

Atari and Marc Ecko, the visionary behind several of today's most respected youth lifestyle brands, announced today that Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure has gone gold and is on schedule to ship to stores nationwide on February 14 in North America and on February 17 in Europe.

Set in the city of New Radius, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure features a world where freedom of expression is suppressed by a tyrannical city government. In the game, players assume the role of Trane - an unlikely hero just looking to get up until he realizes there is much more at stake. Gamers learn and master various graf skills, starting as a toy (beginner) graffiti artist and using street-smarts, athletic prowess and vision necessary to become an "All City King," the most reputable of all graffiti artists.

"Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure fuses authentic urban culture and multi-faceted gameplay in a way gamers have never seen before," said Marc Metis, senior vice president, marketing, Atari, Inc. "Consumers are looking for something new, unique, and original in gaming, and this game delivers it."
All I wanted in life was to 'get up'. Little did I know there was much more at stake...

And apologies for trying to be 'urban' (whatever the hell that means) with the title of the news article.

Ecko should partner up with Fitty on how to market a really crappy game but make it totally street. Hood rats eat up Bulletproof and most come back the next day wanting to return it even after our sage advice against such a purchase.

When humorous games aren't as plentiful anymore it's good to have games like Getting Up to laugh at.

It's funny, because of course we tell them it sucks. Like 25 to Life. For some reason EB/GameStop decided it was supposed to be big. But then customers started reading reviews. We've sold 1 since release.

I may not be up on the whole "graf" thing, but since when is painting on public and private property without the owner's consent "expression"? Are there subtleties here I'm missing?

"respected"?

"youth lifestyle brand"?

the things people pay for nowadays...

I've already played this game a good 3 or so years ago. It was called Jet Set Radio Future back then.

This must be a new special edition or something.

Yeah me too.

There are.

There are always fuck ups who just spray shit anywhere, but some of these people are really artists. A proper Bomber doesn't just spray his garbage anywhere, he puts art somewhere to make a point or be ironic. They are rare.

"respected"?

"youth lifestyle brand"?

the things people pay for nowadays...

Seriously...

It is amazing how people bash a game without actually knowing anything about it. Seeing that there are NO reviews for this game, only previews, you would think that someone posting must know something about this game and have some axe to grind with the publisher or developer.

Also the constant comparisons to Jet Grind because there is graf in the game is like saying that Grand Turismo is the same as Burnout because you drive cars around.

I have no idea what you are talking about or what your beef is.

This game makes about as much sense as Xtreme Paintbrawl. Why would you bother playing a game, that you could easily walk outside your door and do on the sidewalk if you wanted to. Firing off an MP5 or driving a hover-tank, now those are things the average joe doesn't get to do every day.

I don't have a problem with your post. You just posted news. But most of the other posts are negative in nature. I like EA but it seems the minute something gets posted the negatives start flying imediately about how crappy its going to be or how its been done before.

One could argue that most people don't climb massive buildings and kill security guards and policemen in order to spray their graffiti.

Plus, it's an attractive fantasy - the lone artist, out to defy the man. In the game, graffiti means something and can accomplish something, whereas in real life, 99% of graffiti 'artists' are mere vandals, destroying any value or impact that the other 1% could hope to make.

No, I'm neither in the 99 nor the 1. I just like looking at it, when it's good.

To be fair, Getting Up is different from JSRF in almost every way. And the soundtrack will be better. Who knows about the gameplay, though.

I saw a preview of the game on Cinematech, and I have to admit, it is probably the worst looking game I've ever seen in my life. Stealth, urban thuggery hybrid in which you tag stuff? retarded.

Hey now. Don't be slagging the JSR or JSRF soundtracks. I still listen to those things while working on my computer or driving in my car.

While I initially thought that this looked like a JSR-style game, I've heard a lot of people say that it is not at all like JSR aside from the fact that graffitti plays a large role in both games.

That said, what are the main differences between this and the JSR games? I'm too lazy to do the research. Someone else please go forth and itemize the differences into one easy to digest list.

If you don't, I'll tag your house with a full-scale copy of the picture Kelegacy sent in to win his Boomchair.

Based on previews, it mixes Prince of Persia-ish platforming (in a futuristic urban environment) with bits of stealth and some melee combat. I'm not sure if there are any guns or not. It's set in a 1984/V for Vendetta-ish fascist state, apparently, but much darker than JSR. Main character is voiced by Talib Kweli, and I think he produced some original music for the game. There's also a pretty impressive list of graf legends appearing as themselves. The platforming looks interesting, based on videos. The combat looks as though it might be the sticking point, though The Collective did pretty good work with similar combat in a Buffy game.

Who knows how it'll all turn out in the end, though. I'm hopping for the best.

oddly enough, THIS is the most intelligent post so far...
what an absolutely down-syndrome-esque idea/genre(haha) for a game.
