BusinessWeek predicts great things for next gen consoles and good sales but not a lot of revolution (pun intended). Check out the article here (http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/jan2006/tc20060123_995345.htm).
While he states his game will take advantage of the chip's multiple processors, he admits it isn't easy. "It's very much a lot of fumbling around at this point," and a lot of "trial and error," to get something to work on the PS 3, says James Kosta, chief architect for BattleBorne Entertainment, a studio developing a game for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. "It could take three or four generations of games (i.e., years) before we see anything taking advantage of the Cell's real potential."

So... we have one news piece posted saying how wonderful the PS3 is to develop for, and we have this one now.

This sounds a lot more believable though, imo.

Then again, it's normally expected for a console to be out 2-4 years before games really start taking full advantage of the hardware, so this isn't really anything revolutionary.

Seems like this article is more for investors than gamers, what with all the talk of projected sales numbers and when certain killer apps are to be released. Outside of the brief bit about how the Cell might evnetually be tamed and used to expand potential gameplay, there's really nothing here that relates to my experience with next gen systems; namely, having fun mashing buttons and whatnot.

It sounds like it's going to be a long long time before we see any reason to get a PS3. Most games are going multi platform, If I can get the same game on XBox360 or PS3 and they are exactly the same, I will get the Xbox360 one so I can use live with it.

You missed the quote from the Sony Online Entertainment guy who also says it's a nightmare to develop for PS3.

Who's taking bets on when the guy gets shitcanned?

Every time I read these forecasting articles, I am struck by how little insight these analysts seem to have. They collate the data they have from this moment, then draw a straight line from here to there, not even looking at the details of each comany's roadmap. Most depressing was their suggestion that Halo and GTA would continue to be the top blockbuster game titles in the coming generation. Before the current generation, the predecessors to these titles were cult hits, but the same analysts would hardly have suggested that the spiritual sucessor to Marathon would be the #1 selling game on the Xbox platform... They probably still don't know what Marathon is. It took vision to turn the cult classic into the big star it is today, that's something all these analysts lack.

If Halo and GTA do continue to be the top selling franchises next gen. I will be very disappointed.

I would laugh so hard if the Revolution wins the next round. With all the people arguing for the past how many months/years about the PS3 and Xbox360 I'd love for both of them to be wrong.

The revolution needs more than a small pricetag and 1 good game.
The GC is cheap and has a handful of really good games.

Maybe the remote will grow the audience, who knows. But they need to do something else. Something more. They already have the market they're aiming for, for the most part.

The kid-friendly console? that's them.
The grandparent-friendly console? them again.
The multiple-console living room? They're already there.

Define winning.

Winning = Better than 33% of the market globally.

The kid-friendly console? that's them.
The grandparent-friendly console? them again.
The multiple-console living room? They're already there.

You forget internet capable. They won't have as many features as Live, but it will be easier to use. So, they already have virtually every useful feature that the Xbox360 has. Also, it will have widely support emulation feature, unlike Xbox (and probably unlike PS3) for their huge catalog of games. The PS3 doesn't fare any better. In fact, Revolution, will probably have more features than the PS3 since it's pretty likely the PS3 online capabilities are going to be piss poor at best.

Now, this is all ignoring HD, features heavily touted by Sony and MS. But that’s still up in the air if that is a MUST HAVE feature or a gimmick. And it’s also ignoring Blueray. Once again, that is pretty much up in the air.

I think Nintendo is doing the right thing here.

OK Mr. Satan, I'm coming to hell with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch until you start fessin' up.

I'd love to see Nintendo undermine Microsoft and Sony as well, but even in my most ardent fanboy fantasies, I reckon the chance of that happening is somewhere between zero and point zero-zero-zero-zero-one percent.

Let's get real, if Nintendo still plans on releasing only 1 or 2 decent games a year, I don't see them bumping anyone off anywhere.

NDA until 5-18-06

I'm sure someone else in EVIL world has seen it as well.

They named it revolution for a reason........

Couldn't you come up with a less obvious straw-man?
