Break Free from the Guitar Hero Track List
"Why only use your Guitar Hero controller to play a bunch of killer guitar tracks in-game when you can also use it to remind yourself of your true lack of musical talent? :-)"

I got all excited about some Guitar Hero news, but was disappointed to find out it was just someone playing twinkle twinkle little star...

Yeah... it seems that people are less amused by this than I had hoped... it really is fun to play with though -- you can play a lot of interesting sounding stuff...

Here's hoping someone does something akin to Stepmania for Guitar Hero soon. I don't see any reason one couldn't hook the guitar up to the PC with an adapter, like with dance pads.

My sincerest hope is that this is a step towards someone putting out a program where people can make new songs for using the Guitar controller on PC, like Rirath mentioned. Unlimited songs!

I think the problem with a step-mania like guitar game is you will have to do a lot of work to create your own songs, so much so that you will actually have to play the guitar and have a backup band, to record the songs and to create a believable button placement. And if you're actually playing the guitar what point is there to playing a 5-button controller?
edit: more to the point of this news item, if he used the buttons to represent the 5 notes of the minor penatonic scale you could actually use it to create a lot of stuff.

Considering the number of good, homemade DDR tracks for Stepmania, I have to believe it could be done. While you may not have the awesome "if you mess up this button it doesn't play the chord" part at first, one could probably at least have a key the rhythm game going pretty quickly. I don't play guitar, but my (perhaps incorrect) guess is one could map the beats to the 5 buttons fairly easily with a good ear, or sheet music, as you say.

I would rather not have more Guitar Hero songs if they lack the interactivity. The music response is what makes the game fun, otherwise it's just a lazy version of DDR. But you add in the fact your doing the work and it becomes ROCK!!!!
I too would like a way to just play with the guitar adapter using the sound files for the game.
Oh oh oh, Guitar Hero on the 360.... with downloadable tracks in the marketplace, and achivements such as 'God of Rock' and 'Cowboys from Hell 100%"

Whenever I do finally get my new computer, damn bills, I'll be able to start on my side project I'm planning. It's going to use the guitar, along with other periphreals.

Cowboy From Hell 100%? That's sick. But it would make me buy a 360 almost immediately.
