What's better than a normal mouse pad? A gaming surface... and what's better than a gaming surface? A StarCraft II branded one. This fall you'll be able to purchase one of these hot new items for the low price of $14.99. Will it improve your build order? Probably not, but at least they look kinda cool.

Today, SteelSeries, a leading manufacturer of game peripherals and accessories, unveiled a new line of gaming surfaces featuring art from Blizzard Entertainment’s highly anticipated StarCraft® II. The QcK Limited Edition Terran Marine and Kerrigan vs. Zeratul editions are designed with a non-slip rubber base which prevents the pads from sliding, no matter what surface the mousepad is placed on, and is optimized for optical and laser technology providing an overall more reliable gaming experience.

“StarCraft and its expansion have together sold more than 11 million copies worldwide, and we believe StarCraft II will prove equally influential and popular, making this a great opportunity to provide gamers with surfaces that help to improve performance and game play,” said Brian Stech, SteelSeries President of the Americas. “We are incredibly excited to have an opportunity to continue our partnership with the designers from Blizzard Entertainment and develop surfaces that we know StarCraft players will enjoy.”

The SteelSeries QcK Limited Edition Terran Marine and Kerrigan vs. Zeratul gaming surfaces are made of high quality cloth material and optimized textured surface which guarantees both smoothness and glide. The special surface graphic on each mousepad depicts characters from the upcoming StarCraft II, which will pick up where the events of StarCraft: Brood War left off, following familiar characters and new heroes through the next chapter of the series’ epic story.

You play shooters like that? I love a nice mouse pad, it can really tighten up you playing.

unless you have a ratty surface and/or one that is extremely smooth and of a single solid color, a good laser/optical mouse will have no need of a pad of any kind.

I still use a mouse pad even though I have an optical mouse. My desk is a bit reflective, so it does help. I think I prefer the comfort of the mouse pad, though. It helps keep track of distance, in a way.

I have a Logitech G3, but I still use a mousepad out of habit.

Oh sure, but to me it feels like crap sliding all around freely, a good pad gives you (some) feedback.

The whole mouse pad debate is all up to preference. The last pad I used was an Icemat glass one which was amazing until it broke at a LAN. I want as little feedback as possible since I mainly play shooters with high sensitivity, so once again its personal preference.

I find it hilarious that companies still want to use mouse pads as a marketing technique though.

I want this, but I like my Portal mousepad that I got from the Valve store.

You mean you have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy.
