Not much going on this week. Nintendo's Touch Golf should prove to be interesting on the DS. We also have our first Olympic game of the year with Torino 2006 for the Xbox and PS2.

Not much in theaters, though Roving Mars should be great on IMAX, especially since it's scored by Philip Glass (http://www.philipglass.com).

I think Touch Golf is going to be a must buy for DS sports gamers. Tiger Woods for the DS was absolutely atrocious, so anything will be better than that, but I think TG is gonna be sweet. Online play would have been awesome, but I'll take what I can get.

Let me once again state that the holiday glut of games really does a disservice to gamers.

EDIT - No doubt I'm giving y'all ammunition to question my very existence, but I almost enjoyed the first Big Momma's House (I saw it on a Trans-Atlantic flight).

Gamespot thinks otherwise. Apparently the stylus controls hurt the game and take away from the golf strategy.

Edit: Oh, and Annapolis looks to REALLY suck.

Yeah, having 70% of the good games come out within the same 2.5 month period is just fatal to most games, then you get these nice slow times, where Devil May Cry 3: $20 edition is possibly the game most looked forewards to.

Don't feel bad about liking Big Momma's House on a plane, they probably had chemicals in the air to make you halucinate that it was not horrible. It was the drugs fibabits! The DRUGS!

The thing I do like about the holiday glut is that I actually have a few months where I don't feel the constant need to dig myself into a deeper financial hole.

Maybe this year I can actually break the cycle. Hooray for next-gen systems and their crazy high prices. Spig can sit out the launch and regain a bank balance that is in the positive.

As for games, DMC3 looks promising, but I'll probably just rent it (I still haven't finished DMC 1 or 2).

The Aristocrats is supposed to be a fantastic little film. Filthy, but fantastic.

I'm curious about Touch Golf. I'm not a big sports game fan and golf has never been a hobby of mine (unless it features Mario and you can set the ball on fire).

That said, we've been playing a lot of Tiger Woods 2004 at work lately so I'm starting to get hooked. I'll give Touch Golf a rent and see how it is.

I may very well get DMC3 unless I find some reviews that say the Special Edition stuff kills it.

The one good thing it could do is it forces you to way to play some of the good games. By waiting you end up getting those games at a cheaper price either used or after a reduction.

Sadly, as long as I have the residents there and involved in the playing of the Tiger Woods, I AM working...

Heck, the last weekend I worked I just had them play Tiger Woods and I worked on my town in Animal Crossing DS and then got to about 50% completion on Aria of Sorrow.

Sometimes my job rocks :)

This is very true. Still, it's a bloody nightmare for people like me who are absolutely addicted to buying things. :o

Touch Golf sells like shit over here though. We had about one copy since a week before the EU release and we still have it.

I have recently picked up Devil May Cry 3 again recently, and I just have to say that it is rediculously hard...Not Ninja Gaiden hard, but still damn hard. I think the main difference is that Ninja Gaiden is a bit more about percision and perfection, where the slightest wrong move would end your game. Its the same thing in DMC3, but not nearly as much, but still frustratingly difficult.

The Aristocrats is good stuff.
DVD is actually a much better medium for the material. 90 minutes of the same joke... well it's not exactly a 'movie' per se. Being able to jump around is a good thing.

We're two that shouldn't talk, fitbabits. I'm at work right now, and I have a pretty demanding job. Thank God I'm super intelligent and can multitask internet chatting with handling millions of dollars of money that isn't mine.

And I agree with Spig-boy. The holiday glut is unfortunate, but people like Spiggy and me can catch up on games we missed. I can only beat a game a month, or maybe 2 if a game is short enough. I just dont have the free time to game like I used to, and during the week I barely game at all. Getting home from work and initiating a game for the next 5 hours is a nice thought, but my time flashes by too fast and suddenly it's time for bed. With the slowdown in post-holiday releases, at least I can catch up a bit.

You goddamn jerkoff. I wish I was. I was up too late reading To Kill A Mockingbird. Surprisingly excellent novel, and reading these classics years later, when I am older and wiser, makes me appreciate them so much more.

I learned to dislike a lot of classic novels, including Mocking Bird, after having them shoved down my throat in school. I'd probably enjoy these books if I read them on my own time. What's wrong with me?

Heh! Mockingbird is a great book, as is Of Mice and Men.

I'm getting ready to quit my current job and go temporary for a little while to gain experience in the IT field. My wife and I will be leaving the sunny climes of NC for either Chicago or Denver in the Spring and I want to put my A+ to good use. I'm sick of business admin-related crap, even though that's what I somehow graduated college with!

I think we were all a little young to understand the lessons that the classics taught. We loathe them at a young age, and even in college I found ways to worm out of reading. But now that I'm older and graduated from college, I am picking up the books I "read" or didn't have to read while I school. Stuff like Catcher in the Rye, To Kill A Mockingbird, In Cold Blood, Brave New World, One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest, etc are books I can enjoy much more now that I have a bit more wisdom under my belt.

Son of a ... I just read the Gamespot review and it sounds like it's less than stellar. That's a bummer. The touch screen definitely has a lot of potential for a golf game but I guess we'll still be waiting. I'll keep an eye out for other people's experiences and hope for the best.

I moved from NC to TX in 1996 to join the IT industry and have never looked back. There are two sides to IT...technical and management. Most people start on the technical track and if they do well either elect to move into a management position or get pushed into it by their company. I would recommend staying on the technical side if possible since you usually have more freedom and keep your hands on what really matters in IT as a whole. Management can be rewarding financially but usually involves a lot more stress and there is always the joy of dealing with your group's personal problems. I guess it just depends on what you enjoy doing for work and opportunties that arise.

Your degree and certifications will help you greatly once you make the move though fitbabits. It sounds like you know what you're doing and have a good plan to make the change. Most jobs are contract to hire over a period of 3 months or less with Security and Project Management being fairly hot right now.

Anyway, best of luck to you and yours!

You suck Gigabyte.

Yeah, yesterday I put together my new computer. After not POST'ing for a couple hours, I finally got it to POST. Now, it just never gets past the first Post screen. It's not frozen, I can still get into BIOS and press the capslock key to toggle the keyboard lights. It just never moves past that first screen after IDE devices. And screen get's a little scrambled. I'm assuming the mobo not liking the PCI (not PCIe) videocard that is at least 10 years old. I just haven't bought a new vc yet.

The most frustrating thing is, other than it not working, is I probably won't have time to work on it until next weekend. With work and commute time I don't have time to play around w/ it and research forums for 4-5 hours a day. Argh...

Needless to say, I'm not too confident.

One other theater release this week is Tristram Shandy: A Cock & Bull Story. It's been getting rave reviews across the pond and the trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/picturehouse/tristramshandy/) shows great promise.

Yeah, I am having issues with my computer sa well. While I was playing Splinter Cell and Half-Life 2: Long Coast, my screen kept on getting artifacts after 15-20 mins worth of game. I looked into the computer and fan that my graphics card fan had disintegrated(the fan assembly had melted and fallen off the fan, lying at the bottom of the case. Hah.

If it wasn't for IT I'd be broke and have no direction or career path to take. Three cheers for a life long interest leading to what has been a quickly rewarding career.

As far as management, as far as I'm concerned you get into management in IT when you are looking to get out of IT without taking a step back.

Hey, nifty. *points* Stephen Fry! And of course Mr. Coogan. Unfortunately, anytime a film says "limited" next to its US release date, it means I'll be waiting for DVD. *shakes fist*

Not much in the way of games this week, is there? Ah well. Time to go to Best Buy and check the bargain racks.

Which is the opposite of every other review I've read. Considering the other review scores have varied wildly and several have shown a better understanding of golf, I wouldn't put too much stock in the Gamespot one.

Here's what Tycho of Penny Arcade fame had to say about Touch Screen Golf.

I thought I was looking at the gutted infrastructure of the thing before, and that's pretty much the delivered product. It is lackadaisical in execution, form, and function, as though no human hand had ever touched it, as though the code had spontaneously generated itself. The swing mechanic feels alright, and had the follow-through elsewhere been more uniform they might have been right to place their faith in it - but there is almost nothing here. The helpful indicators on-screen are so helpful that they virtually play the game for you. Usually I would criticize that, but here is a case where not playing the game provides a kind of soothing relief.

Four player golf off a single cartridge is nice, and the only thing I will laud without a vicious parenthetical attached somewhere. I've never actually leered at a cartridge before True Swing Golf. It may have seemed to an observer that I was merely displeased with the small square of grey plastic, but it was my secret hope that my rage could sear the label.

Yeah, almost everyone's bitched about the barebones nature of the game, but only Gamespot has complained about the controls.
