GateWorld has the story (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/01/reportiallianceivideogamed.shtml) about the future of the Alliance.
Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, the long-awaited video game based on the hit sci-fi franchise, may be breathing its final breaths. Australian developer Perception PTY Ltd. layed off its staff and closed its doors Friday due to the lack of an approved publisher for the game, according to a report at Online Gamer.
The decision came when the last of the company's money ran out, according to the report allegedly from a former employee, because licensor MGM would not approve a new publisher for the title. Neither Perception nor MGM have yet to make any official comment on the situation.I was really looking forward to this game too, and also hoping it did not suck. But unfortunately, it looks like we may never find out.

How haven't they found a publisher? 9 Seasons and a successful spin-off and this game can't get a publisher? WTF? We get thousands of Barbie and Mary-Kate games, but not one damn Stargate? Even a crappy Starship Troopers game based off a movie that came out years ago came out recently. I'm pissed...

From what I heard and saw, the game was going to suck big, so no real surprise.

Nothing like making decisions through studio politics.

chances are they didn't want to approve a publisher because they saw the game was going to suck and didn't want to 'tarnish' their image.

I hate to sound like a negative-nelly* here but I think we all know this game would have sucked. I can almost smell the suckitude through my monitor. I think we all owe a debt of thanks to whomever or whatever force stopped this sucky game from being released onto the market. Praise the forces of non-suckiness! Hail Quality!
*untrue. i actually like sounding like a negative nelly.

The source for the article posted those comments at a forum that I frequent, but the post seems to have been deleted. I was going to post it the other day, but I wasn't sure if they'd consider a forum post a proper news source.

Well then I would like to know if the rights to the project will be relased for maybe a more comptent company to pick it up. I would love to see the game made along a Brother in Arms style or Full spectrum Warrior. Take advantage of the four members of the SG-1 or SG-A teams. I hope they let a game be made, as it would be a shame if such a popular scifi show couldn't transfer over to the gaming world.

This really pisses me off. Holy Crap. <--there should be far more mad emoticons in this thread
This is what happens when the people with money think they know what we, the people, want. They base their decisions off of whacked out numbers provided by whacked out researchers who don't know anything and merely tell them what they want to here.
By the way, seeing that a game sucks does not prevent a publisher from pushing it through all the way the development cycle. Just take a look at all the crappy games that you have played throughout your entire life. There's basically MORE crap than quality.

Actually, it's probably just internally politics at MGM. Maybe the person pushing the game through there left or fell out of favor. Maybe someone just wanted to screw with their projects. Who knows?

the E3 playable version last year wasn't very promising, seemed like a cash in more than anything....
Didn't this get an UK/EU release under GMX?
Hah I'm not kidding Im sure I saw this in a shop
You could do a good stargate videogame in the style of xcom I reckon, that would kick arse.

Funny thing is, the idiots behind this game had to go and start a lawsuit against a Half-Life mod for Stargate that was looking very very promising. Then you hear things like this, when obviously, if the dev's closed shop because of a story like this, you know the game was just going to suck hardcore and they ran out of money. It's really pitiful to think a band of young people would have come up with prolly a much better mod then these professionals could come up with in a year or 2.

This is just like Babylon 5 game that got canceled late in development. Successfull shows and you can get one game out. Lucky the B5 community had a group of title artist and programers make pretty nice shareware game. http://ifh.firstones.com/.
Take it back, I was thinking of Starship Troopers.
