View Full Version : 'Duke Begins' Developer is Gearbox Software

A while back, some court documents outlined that there was a new Duke Nukem game in development titled Duke Begins and that it was being worked on by a well known developer. Today, Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59522) has word that this developer is none other than Randy Pitchford's Gearbox Software.

Gearbox was named within Take-Two's answer to a counterclaim filed by series creator 3D Realms/Apogee Software Ltd. The increasingly complicated lawsuit sees publisher Take-Two going after 3D Realms for the incomplete state of the long-in-development shooter Duke Nukem Forever, with 3D Realms labeling the lawsuit as a "bully tactic."

Duke Begins emerged from a 2007 Agreement between 3D Realms and Take-Two, with development taking place at an external third party studio now known to be Gearbox. As part of the deal, 3D Realms received a $2.5 million advance to help fund DNF.

Everyone knows that Borderlands is the only game Gearbox will actually release... Unless maybe Borderlands is really Duke Begins! OMGZbshax!

I'd like to see a Duke Nukem title from Gearbox. Besides wanting to play the game, it would be good to see Gearbox continue to get the work.

While Take-Two admits that the development of Duke Begins "has for the time being been halted," the company denies that the game has been cancelled, and argues that 3D Realms did not need to be consulted regarding this change to the schedule

One day my grandkids will get a chance to play Duke Nukem Forever or Begins, whichever will come out first.

Man you're too old! 33 years, you probably already have kids!

It's more probable that MY grandchildren play it when they become adults... in about 50 years from now.

I worked at a video game store when that "PS9" commercial came out and the very next day I got people in there asking if they could buy it, preorder it, see it...I hated that commercial.

Never saw that before. Cant blame people for not believing random anonymous sources though.
