Continuing on a bit on the Silent Hill movie theme, here's a (translated) interview (http://community.livejournal.com/silenthill/638253.html#cutid1) with director Christophe Gans from the French magazine Écran Fantastique. In it, he talks about his 5-year struggle to convince Konami to make a SH movie, his dedication to the game and its imagery, and why there are so many women running around. This should answer a lot of questions about just what kind of movie he's shooting for.

It's over a month old, but quite revealing. There's a bit of a small spoiler, by the way.

Favorite quote: "I have an enormous respect for videogames. I sincerely believe that it is a form of art and I’m trying to reproduce Silent Hill as a game but also as the feeling I have when I’m playing it. It’s not easy to direct but I’m telling myself that, in the worst case, the movie will at least be respectful to the game’s roots."

It's about time we had a director who treated games with respect. I really hope this turns out as well as it looks.

Edit: OH MAN! I didn't realize that Christopher Gans was the guy who did Brotherhood Of The Wolf. My anticipation of the movie has just increased tenfold! TENFOLD, I say!

I watched the trailer yesterday and at first I was sketchy on the thought until the end of it when it showed some clips of the creatures. Im thinking this movie will be one of the few to hit near its video game roots unlike Doom. Yeouch.

I patiently wait for this movie to be released on my birthday.

The original, brief teaser for the movie was fantastic, but like Grim the full length trailer was a little lacking... until you get a glimpse of the creatures.

Here's a link for anyone who hasn't seen it yet: http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=1401398&sdm=web&qtw=640&qth=400

What I find interesting is that in one scene the snow is shown to be ashes falling on the town. Interesting...

Looks really plain still. I hope they use a lot of the music from the soundtrack(s).

I'm so glad that Uwe Boll didn't get his hands on this.. of course I don't think that Akira Yamaoka would let Mr. Boll get anywhere within 100 miles of the director's chair for this movie.

I'm so excited about this movie after seeing the trailer. This looks like it's gonna be great.

Well Gans can certainly talk the talk. I'm impressed and hopeful.

The original game composer will be scoring the film.

That's what really seals the deal for me. It just wouldn't be Silent Hill without Akira Yamaoka.

I'm quite excited for this movie. Judging by the trailer, it looks like it'll be decent. And hopefully, Uwe will see this and say, "Wow, I have come to the realization that all of my work sucks."

I thought that had something to do with the fires that "started nearly 30 years ago". Interesting indeed.

Brotherhood was a great film, quirky, creepy, it had a wonderful atmosphere that would be hard for anyone to match. I'm pretty damn psyched for this film now.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. The games never had that great of gameplay, but I always enjoyed them because of the scary atmosphere.

Plus, the movie has Sean Bean.

Actually, the guy who did Resident Evil: Apocalypse will be scoring the Silent Hill movie.

Only bits and pieces from the game scores will be incorporated into the film's soundtrack.

What is your source?

The internet.

I gotta clarify by saying that Jeff Danna will mainly be assisting with timing and other technical issues...most of the music will apparently be identical to Yamaoka's compositions.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384537/fullcredits

The only thing listed in the credits is "Original Music by Akira Yamaoka"

And there appear to be some music editors on board, which is necessary when adapting pre-existing scores. Granted IMDB isn't always accurate, but this late in the game the studio has typically released these details to the industry for the one-sheets and promotional campaigns, so I imagine this is pretty close. At one time, Danna's IMDB page listed SH as his most recent project (cached google page) (http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:npIib4CEE9YJ:www.imdb.com/name/nm0004582/+jeff+danna+silent+hill&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1) . It no longer does, nor is he listed in the full credits above.

I can only assume that he dropped out or someone else was able to fill his role.
