UFC President Dana White has explained that disrespect from EA has lead to the current policy of banning any fighter involved with their new MMA game. He seems to have a point and makes it in his usual style.

"EA Sports told us, 'You're not a real sport,'" White said. "'We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this.'"

With EA Sports passing on the rights to the UFC's video game license, rival software company THQ elected to partner with mixed martial arts' biggest promotion. The company's first effort, "UFC Undisputed 2009," has shipped approximately 2 million units since its May release according to White, and the fiery exec is upset that EA Sports is now changing their tune with the recent announcement of a forthcoming "EA Sports MMA" title.

"We put our asses on the line, THQ and the UFC, to make a video-game deal in the worst economy in the world," White said. "We go out there and do this thing, and it's successful, and now [expletive] EA Sports wants to do a video game. Really? That's not what you told us a year-and-a-half ago.

"You told us you'd never be in business with us. They wouldn't even take a meeting because mixed martial arts disgusted them. This wasn't a real sport. Boy, they got over that real quick, didn't they?"

It's not my cup of tea but Kudos to THQ for taking a chance on something different, the industry needs much more diversity. However I'm surprised EA didn't try to capitalize on more than one market with their MMA game, they could have easily set the game in World War 2. "Xtreme MMA Heros of Duty 1942" anyone? :P

Nice find.

Dana White is something of a kook. Remember all the crap he was talking about Kimbo Slice? Now Kimbo is doing the UFC TV show. If you wave enough money in Dana's face, he'll see things your way.

Tough to pick a side in Dana White vs. EA. I'll just sit back and watch them both get bloodied.

Pitpig - Dana actually from day 1 said that kimbo was a joke and he would never sign kimbo, and the only way he would ever consider letting him into the ufc was for kimbo to win out on the show and earn a contract. The only surprise was that kimbo agreed.

I know there are some out there who think that Dana White is crazy, or an asshole, or whatever, but you have to give that guy credit for becoming the face of the fastest growing sport in the world, from day one he's done things his way and at this point, there are very few people out there that can deny his success.

Dana White has a few more decades of crazy media quotes to go before he reaches Vince McMahon's megalomaniacal status. He could try to speed things up by starting the "XBA"-- the "XTREME" Basketball Association-- before the entire organization folds after the first 5 televised games.

Im sure that was verbatim and word for word.

Either way- i dont think THQ should get kudos for giving UFC a chance. Someone would have given it too them- and chances are it would have done pretty well. This is like a bizaro mix of wrestling smack talking that is crossing dimensional industries.

On the plus side, I guess I don't have to worry about EA snatching up exclusive rights to the UFC and churning out dogshit annual titles anymore.

At least, not until they come back to him with their tail between their legs. Like, well, everyone.

I know eventually shit's not going to go his way and a lot of people are going to be eager to capitalize. But so far it's been working for the UFC. And in this case, EA are definitely the larger assholes.

EA will start up a rival league, fund the whole thing and keep it afloat until it is a viable competitor. Then that will peel off fighters and he'll have nothing to go on.

Then EA will have an exclusive lock on the MMA franchise as well.

Besides, if you were a good biz man you would pretend EA had appeal for the next game to get more money out of THQ

This has been tried by others, and they all failed. I'm doubtful EA would throw money away for years without the possibility for a return just to start a fight with the UFC. More likely they will invest in Affliction.

I'm glad EA didn't pick this up. EA moves away from a title that they can churn out every year? Yes.. makes me dislike that company even more.

And BS. EA had to have known that they game would sell at least decently well. UFC and Video games share the same market group -- in most respects.

Way to find a way to hate on EA more though.

I have a hard time believing that anyone would think that a MMA game would do bad. Seriously, as Hegetaka said, it's basically the same market.

Could this just be bullshit from D-dub to sustain sales?

It is - on Rampage Jackson no less.

I think a videogame is the only way you'll see a fight between those two go that way.

After a careful review, I've concluded he's going for his right nut.

Also.....go see bruno. A great nod to the ambiguous gayness of UFC in it.

Dana White is right, and also UFC invested in the production of the game, EA now tries to steal market share.... I hope UFC just signs Fedor Emalienko before EA snatches him :)

Worst economy in the world? I like the sport, but the president should have graduated from high school first.

I saw it - it's a funny bit. Seems like more of a knock on Southern culture though and less about MMA.

Certainly a claim you could leverage against almost all sports.

I just cant bash EA. They sucked for awhile but in the past year or two have put out some good stuff. Plus i hear there are lots of republicans employed there, and im all about the republicans.

EA>UFC fad. Of course it will always be around but not in the mainstream.

Nah. Even EA has its lucid moments. Every time I've seen Dana White issue a press release, he sounds even more batshit insane, egomaniacal, and asshole-ish than the last time. This time is no different. He really is a tool.

Also, you forget that EA has stepped down from "Company trying to run video gaming into the ground" and let Activision take over.
