What does the future hold for the two MMORPGs? Jack Emmert, creative director at Cryptic Studios, explains future plans for the games and discusses the successes of the recent City of Villains launch. In the following quote he tackles the issue of lethal powers.

"We might be instituting a system where players can't be "one shotted", but that wouldn't be particular to any Archetype. The Assassin's Strike is in fact just one power among many that leads to one shots in PvP."

You can read the rest of this short interview at Boomtown (http://rpg.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=10355).

Shortest interview maybe ever? :)

Not Boomtown's fault of course, but Emmert just doesn't seem to be talking. I think they're figuring out how to develop for two almost separate games right now, and that they are currently focused on cranking out the rest of CoV (levels 40-50 and SG raids - which are a big freaking deal).

Too bad they couldn't release that content initially. SG raids and bases in particular were never close to complete in the CoV beta. Hopefully, they are nearing completion and will work well.

I like that quote about Assassins "one shot". Yeah, other classes have powerful abilities, but the assassin pretty much revolves around that one attack, and taking it away would make them useless. I'm not sure how well PvP in CoH/CoV works anyway.

I'm not sure how well PvP in CoH/CoV works anyway. It works a bit like this.

Group of 4-5 heroes approach group of 4-5 villains
Fighting ensues
Heroes gain advantage
5 Assassins appear out of nowhere and Assassin Strike most of the Heroes' team into oblivion
Any remaining heroes flee in terror
Rinse
Repeat

I hate CoH PvP.

Ughs, reminds me of the CoV beta. Nothing like having a Mastermind, spending the 5-10 minutes it takes to summon and train all your minions, stepping out into a PVP area, and being one-shotted 10 steps into the zone line by an invisible assassin with super speed.

Wow, you must play with a bunch of horrible players.... I've never actually seen that happen and I've played PVP since the beta... frequently.

Assassains in PVP are easy to kill. Almost too easy. My blaster's can take out most assassains instantly. And once an assassain attacks, he's toast if there are any other heros around. Heck, even a defender can take out an assassain pretty easily by merely immobilizing him.
The problem is that you asshats don't fight in coordinated and ballanced teams. You need a defender or a controller around who can rez... or carry awakens.

Assassain attacks.
You kill assassain.
You revive fallen hero.
Rince.
Repeat.

I played both for quite some time.. then played just WoW for a while.. then I switched back to COH. There is something nice about the simplicity. I was such a market moguel in WOW that it got waaay too complecated and involved for me. That's largely my fault, but I did make a heck of a lot of gold by buying and reselling. But no, I wasn't a jerk. I gave it away to guild members as fast as I got it. ;) And I didn't farm for any of it.

But anyways... COH is a nice game. They are planning on implementing something like a skill system from what I've heard. At least that's what the going rumor is from the good old rumor mill.

Peace. To each their own. I think both games are absolutely supurb pieces of workmanship.
