Following on from the early screenshots (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8986&
), Medieval 2: Total War has been officially announced.
Thunderous battles on a huge scale with thousands of units on screen. Armies are now made up of meticulously detailed troops built with unique heads, body, weapons and armour with unique animations and poses that gives each individual unit character and depth. Troops and cavalry are decorated with all the heraldic finery and colour of medieval warfare that’s gradually muddied and bloodstained through the course of battle.

Let's hope they take a step back from the 'streamlined' Rome. After Total Warrier though, that might be a forlorn hope...

I quite liked Rome: Total War and hope that this is as good as that game. I can't wait to see what sort of siege warfare can be had, heh heh.

I'm hoping for a Greek: Total War or China: Total War before a full blast Napoleonic: Total War. Oh well. I foresee an accompanying Total Warrior game on the console side like Britons: Total Warrior.

I like graphical detail, but I hope they don't go too much overboard with the bells and whistles while taking out the 'crunchy' aspects that makes the game fun. I did feel that RTW was a little light in some areas, but it was still enjoyable.

For me, the total war series has always been about combat, and little else. Sure there's economic and political actions you can take, it all culminates into going to the battle map. I hate the people that play total war without going to the battle map and just use auto resolve instead.
I loved the first Medieval, and I think Rome mostly improved on it. Some might complain about the "streamlining", but I think that was generally a big bonus.
I'm now looking forward to this game as much as I've been looking forward to Oblivion. --The industry always manages to do that to me. They pull out some new shiny bauble that I must have, right before giving me the other shiny thing they showed me last year.
I thought Rome was better than Medieval all up. I've played all three of them, and like them all though, so I've faith that I'll like this one too... even though I'm a bit dissapointed that its not in a new time period.

I am not liking Sega as a publisher one bit, my disc on of Rome Total war is damaged beyond repair (I bought one of those disc repairing thingies to see if that would fix it, but no help!) and I emailed them, but because it bought it over a year ago, I am fucked and I won't get a replacement... bad customer service methinks...
Anyhow, I'll be conquering Europe some more this weekend, might try the Alhomahads (or whatever) this time....

You're mad because they won't replace a year old disk? I wouldn't qualify that as poor customer service. I mean, come on, your disk is over a year old.

Not Mad, just a tad stroppy I guess ;)
I assume that returning faulty discs would be considered customer service, every time this happened to me before I would just send in the faulty disc and return stamp money or some shit and I would get a new disc.
Then again, the last time this happened was back in 1997 I think

I like the fact that you can play it either way - either 'boardgame' style, or more tactical. Honestly, after I've beat the same enemy soundly a few times on the battlefield, it gets to be a bit of a chore. Those games have always fascinated me more from the strategic angle than the tactical, but it does make the focal battles all the more exciting when you can take control of them at the unit level.
Looking at these screen shots though they are early, they seem like they're too similar to Rome:TW.
I hope this new game improves on the gameplay, making it more realistic than other games.
