Penny Arcade Volume 1: Attack of the Bacon Robots is now available (http://www.thinkgeek.com/pennyarcade/other/7f9e/) at Thinkgeek (www.thinkgeek.com) !
I ordered mine just a few minutes ago. Order quick if you definitely want one, I imagine these will sell out pretty quickly. Enjoy!
As a fair warning, I've had nightmarish experiences with DHL and recommend paying the extra 50 cents or whatever it is and use UPS.

I ordered mine months ago!
Got an email this morning letting me know it's hot on its way to my old address!!!
I've been considering it, the price is right so I probably will. Pretty cool they got the intro done by Bill Amend.

Stupid courier only shipping to overseas.
Ah well, expensive but still worth it.

Amazon has it for preorder still, but it is a few bucks cheaper.

I got mine yesterday, ordered it through Diamond months ago, comic distributor, and have been enjoying it. The art has really matured and gotten nice and stylized over the years, without the pac-man symbol on the shirt you almost wouldn't be able to tell what comic it was. Each comic has a commentary, a short little blurb about the history of the comic or just disowning some of them:) Also a couple little sketch sections, nice little addition there. Plus the paper quality and binding is great, and I have to say that as a book-smeller(yeah yeah, I admit it) it's very pleasing.
Well worth the price of admission and I look forward to future volumes, will definitely pick those up.

I know what you mean about book smells man, sometimes you'll pick up a trade paperback that actually smells like the papermill its source material originated from. I'm glad to hear that the quality is good, I've been looking forward to this.

I'd get this, but I'd rather hold off for their CCG sets to be released.
I think that'll provide more quirky fun than the book.

My copy arrived today from Amazon (along with my Serenity RPG manual! Huzzah for PnP Serenity goodness!)
I'd had it preordered from Amazon for about 3-4 months and totally forgot about it until I got home to find the package waiting for me. Very nicely bound tome and the introductions by Bill Amend and Tycho are great reads. I haven't actually read further than the intros, but I'll probably bring it to work tomorrow and give it a read.
I have the PA: Year One book which came out a few years back but this is a much slicker production. Plus it has a few years worth of comics, which helps.
Too bad they can't include at least the initial newsposts. I read PA as much for the newsposts as I do the comics, sometimes moreso.

Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.
That is the funniest thing I've seen all day.

Hmmm, I'll have to think about this one. While it isn't really thrilling to me to have their first year comics, as they are available online anyway, I am really interested in the commentaries and manifesto and stuff.

Buying the book is definitely a good idea because Penny Arcade rocks. But, I wouldn't worry much about the book selling out. It's published by Dark Horse and thus will likely be available (with multiple printings if the first does sell out) for reorder for many moons.

that's a good point but I was just thinking about the number Thinkgeek had available at the moment. It usually seems to take them a week or two to restock items that have sold out.

We've also had problems with DHL. So I'll second the recommendation to avoid them like the plague. If I can blow the quote out of proportion, that is.
And don't forget they're doing a couple of signings in the Seattle area next week and the week after. And at the one in Bellevue they're giving away books and CCGs. I'll at least be at the Comic Stop next week. Anyone else going?

And I'll third the DHL problems. I got one of PA's CTS prints, and when it got here there was a bend in the box. When I looked closer I realized there was actually a big boot print on my package, which was marked "fragile." That's really bad. Fortunately the print wasn't damaged, except for a slight warp and a bit of a crease on the back. I'll never use DHL again.

Well, I spent the majority of my time on the 'net looking at lots of old PA's daily. Mostly because I find that it still provides plenty of amusement after my daily "new stuff" surfing even though I've read some strips (especially the older ones) probably like thousands of times. Now I can read them anywhere without the eye damaging caused my monitors! Also I love books. In addition it is a comic. It's my birthday this weekend so I decided to "impulse buy" especially since the shipping cost twice as much as the book. I love PA though so I needed to buy it. Did I mention I love PA?
As far as I know they've yet to be accused of exposing themselves (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com) to minors. (http://www.absath.com)
EDIT: A couple of friends and I are toying with the idea of venturing to PAX this year. Especially since it didn't cost anywehre near as much as we thought it would. (We live in England. It is a rather long trip.)

and i'll forth... fourth? yeah fourth the DHL issue. Half the time our awesome new releases come from microsoft or sony DHL, the box looks like it was opened or the rancor from SW ep6 got to it.

I ordered an LCD monitor and usb jump drive from Dell and the jump drive never even arrived, and DHL totally couldn't account for it even though they listed it as having been delivered, which is impossible because it was a package that had to be delivered to me personally. I suspect they either left it by the front door of my apartment building for anybody to steal or it "fell off the back of the truck." I also have a friend who works for a computer development office that custom makes software and does hardware repairs and they can judge how cheap a client is based on whether they ship via DHL or not.

There is a rumor that a pirate can kill Chuck Norris. This rumor was actually started by Chuck Norris in order to lure pirates to him.
i prefer PvP (http://www.pvponline.com). i'd recommend picking up any of the trade paperbacks or getting the monthly issues

I, too, hate teh DHL. They delivered my computer case (which I never ended up getting) to the apartment building next door, one day after delivering the same case (which was ordered by my roommate) to the same incorrect address the day before. While that is basically where their responsibility ended in the matter, things only became worse;
For some reason, the girls who lived there signed for the package. Because they didn't order it, they left it outside their door and it was stolen by someone. Now mind you, these were the same girls that had pleasantly hand-delivered my roommates case to our door the day before. They didn't call us or stop by on this particular occasion to hand me my case. The legal action I would have had to undertake to get the money from the girls in the apartment wasn't worth the cost of the case.
While the girls made a mistake for signing for a package that wasn't theirs, then subsequently leaving it outside their door, in the hall, it was ultimately DHL that made the very initial mistake... two days in a row. It's these simple things that cause people to dislike/hate a company, and I've hated DHL ever since.

Chuck Norris is not hung like a horse... horses are hung like Chuck Norris.
and
Crop circles are Chuck Norris' way of telling the world that sometimes corn needs to lie the fuck down.
and
Chuck Norris can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves.
are my three favorite.... ...also.... ..why did I read the entire page in the voice of Quagmire in my head?
I was skimming over the transcript of their MIT thing they did.
PAX on the East Coast was, mentioned. Nice, I'm there if that comes around.

Wow a tonne of DHL hate.
I've used them with liksang a good ten + times, and I've never had a problem.
The worst I can say for them is that you get taxed with them with orders at 250 AUD and over, shipping included, whereas other methods like EMS have much higher thresholds.
Maybe DHL Hong Kong and Australia are decent, but the American one has problems...
Also, there is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Chuck Norris allows to live.

The DHL in Europe that I've used didn't seem to have any problems, but the amount of things I've heard about DHL from the US put me off of the company as a whole.

Nonsense! It's just on the other side of the North Pole, after all...
(It *is* often surprisingly cheap to fly to the UK. I live near Boston, and it's sometimes less expensive to fly to London than it is to fly to, say, St. Louis. Go figure.)
ObPA: Picking up the book on my way home. Did they write all-new commentary for the first year, or did they reuse the "Year One" stuff?

My two favorites are:
-Nagasaki never had a bomb dropped on it. Chuck Norris jumped out of a plane and punched the ground.
and
-Chuck Norris once bet NASA he could survive re-entry without a spacesuit. On July 19th, 1999, a naked Chuck Norris re-entered the earth's atmosphere, streaking over 14 states and reaching a temperature of 3000 degrees. An embarrassed NASA publically claimed it was a meteor, and still owes him a beer.
Oh yeah.
DHL sucks...
Penny Arcade...
other things that relate to the topic...

All of the commentary is brand new and is completely different from the "Year One Retrospective." :)

Is it better or worse though?
Well, *I* think it's better but I suppose one would consider my take a bit biased. I think it's much more insightful as far as what was going on during the time of the strip, as opposed to the Year One Retrospective, which had more "gags" in the commentary.

The commentary is completely different from the Year One book. It's actually quite funny as many of the strips are so obscure and dated that even Tycho sometimes just says, "WHA?! I don't know what we were thinking of there."
I read about half the book at work this morning. Very droll indeed.
By the way, what's up with all the Chuck Norris? We had the stuff earlier in the thread and then today at work someone was saying that they heard a DJ reading some of the things off the list on the radio. Creepy.
