Codemasters have delayed the PC version of DiRT 2 until December of this year due to the implementation of DX11 tech.

During the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, Codemasters said that its rally racer Dirt 2 would hit the gas on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC in September. However, one of those editions has been flagged before even getting to the starting line, as Codemasters said today that Dirt 2 for the PC has slipped to December.

It isn't entirely bad news for PC gamers looking to tear through Dirt 2's new courses. Codemasters said that the reason for the delay was so that the development team could implement DirectX 11 technologies into Dirt 2. The application programming interface set is expected to release alongside Windows 7--Microsoft's latest operating system--on October 22, with compatible hardware due later this year.

I'm pretty sure that DX11 means that new video hardware has to come out as well. I remember microsoft stating that Vista will be able to update to DX11, but i'm 99% sure that current DX10 or 10.1 videocards won't be able too...

I guess my 4870 is about to start feeling old.

You know what? The game will probably not look noticeably better than its DirectX9 console brothers.

Correction, console brother. I'm not sure what the name is of the PS3's rendering engine. Wait, is this even coming to PS3?

Yeah it's coming out on everything but PS2.

Seems like PC gamers get shafted more and more often these days. I'd say I don't know how they put up with it but then I pay for XBL.

DX11 might turn out to actually find major support with games if Windows 7 manages to succeed where Vista failed. As it is, DX10 is kinda hollow...

May look slightly better, but with less framerate hiccups. I think that's a-ok in my book.

I don't know how waiting for a few extra months for DX11 features is getting shafted, DX11 is promising some pretty nifty stuff (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3759/sponsored_feature_introducing_.php). AMD (http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/amd-shows-off-worlds-first-directx-11-gpu/) is supposedly on track for DX11 video cards being released by the end of the year too, this could turn out remarkably well for the PC gamers. heh That is, aside from the ones that dropped $400+ on a video card recently.

Anyone who spends over 250 dollars for a video card is the type of person who will always be buying a new card. For me, 160 bucks every couple of years will do just fine. I'll take that ATI Radeon 5850 when I can.
