Gamecloud has posted an interview (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3084) with Ferret Baudoin of Obsidian Entertainment, talking about their upcoming D&D RPG sequel, Neverwinter Nights 2.

Gamecloud: How will Neverwinter Nights 2's multiplayer and mod abilities be improved for the original?

Ferret Baudoin: The mutliplayer UI is being redone to make use of features that you see in most MMOs (massive multiplayer online games). And mod-makers will be able to do a ton more cool stuff with the toolset for their multiplayer mods. Mod-makers have a lot more customization they can do with interiors and exteriors, some things that were closed off in NWN1 have been opened up, and other fun stuff. After NWN2 is released, the adventure truly has just begun.

the last statement gives me hope. as personally i never gave a rat's ass about the MP for this game and preferred to focus on the SP story/experience.

Neverwinter Nights 1 required quite a bit of dicking around to attempt to import textures and resources. I hope that it will be easier in this one. Maybe also implement 3d objects. I still want to be a swashbuckling hero and cut down a chandelier cord causing a chandelier to drop on some soldiers.

I guess I missed the memo that said NWN was the best RPG ever. The engine and the entire package are awesome, I totally agree: but the single player was not good at all.

There is no game at all which has the same ability that NWN has. Me, I never played they SP campaigns because I saw it as a toolset. Much like buying rulebooks and such for tabletop D&D. I still to this day do not know why this product isn't marketed for the multiplayer crowd instead of the single player experience. It would be a great product if it were a well developed toolset & client and they did not focus on a SP product. Instead, they could sell modules after the system is out on shelves much like Bioware decided to do.

Let me go on further that when someone says that NWN is the best RPG every, that is kinda misleading... There are many modules for NWN which are damn good and some persistant worlds that rival many MMORPGs. The offical campaigns though for NWN I find to be very boring and extremely linear...

I love NWN and am dedicating a big chunk of my life to a NWN2 campaign.

I think I agree that the official campaign for NWN was a bit on the weak side. I heard that the original plan was for a series of short modules that you could play with your friends but weren't really connected together in a meaningful story.

Instead, they quickly realized that many people would only get the game for the official campaign, so they redid everything as quickly as they could.

The real strength of NWN is the modules and content the community have made for it over the last few years. It's truly remarkable stuff.

*sigh* where's our next real baldur's gate ?:( I happened to enjoy controlling all aspects of my entire party, rather than the diablo style henchman :( not to mention how can you do a proper dnd experience when you only have two people? I accept the strengths of nwn's modular capabilities, but I just want a real baldur's gate back, a real roleplaying epic that took 40+ hrs to complete the main story (not doing everything!).

Note that NWN2 has "companions", which allow you to take full control of their actions. It won't be quite like BG2, but rather more like KotOR where you can switch between characters.

I believe Dragon Age will be more like Baldur's Gate in the sense that I think you have RTS-style controls to control characters. It's still early in development, though.

I think the 40-80 hour RPGs of the past are fading somewhat. These days the gameplay seems to be around 20 hours, mostly due to the extreme production costs that AAA titles have.

After I dumped WoW for the boring tripe that it is, I went back to the persistent worlds of NWN online play. It's not as fancy or flashy but it has damn good gameplay. Don't have to pay $15/month either. :)

I recently picked up the Platinum DVD edition of this game, and I have barely touched the main campaign. Some of the Community made modules are absolutely brilliant, and I'm having a blast with them. Can anyone here reccomend a good PW, I've looked at some on the vault and whatnot, but just wondering about any personal experiences you guys have had.

Thanks,
K

For a persistant world I can recommend the one I created, it is named Midgard. It has been released on NWVault but is being hosted dedicated now as well. You can visit the fan created website at http://www.omegaserver.net.

Also, here is a link to the CEP (v1.52) which you will need to play many of the PWs available on the net...
