View Full Version : Auto Assault Preview
Pro-G (http://www.pro-g.co.uk) has a hands-on Auto Assault preview.
So, whilst the developers still have quite a bit of work to do with some of the more technical aspects of the game, all the basics of a life-eating MMORPG appear to be in residence already. With three-way PvP, a truly grand scale, accessible and involving combat, plus a setting that will appeal to people turned off by Tolkien-esque Orcs 'n' Elves fantasy, Auto Assault has the potential to vie for the title 'RPG of the Year'

I have been playing Auto Assault Beta more lately, and I must say that the improvements that have been made are outstanding.
The graphics have been improved by a huge amount, the physics have also been improved, and the vehicles (at least the Terminator vehicles) don't feel so weird when you are driving them.
The ability to buy new vehicles as you advance in levels has added a lot of fun. They need several new models for the vehicles because at the moment it looks like they only have 2-3 for each vehicle class.
I have not had a chance to do any PvP, but I am having a blast doing quests.
I finally got the chance to group with a friend of mine and it was great fun driving through the zone turning entire towns into rubble.
The game was very far from the point where I would ever even consider making the commitment to purchasing it. Now, I am at the point where I will probably buy it when it comes out, at least if they give it another 6-12 months of beta. It is not even close to being ready to be pushed out the door.

The game desperatly needs technical help. I still can't run it for more than several minutes most of the time.
I still think it's much more fun in concept than most MMOs, it just needs more work. I also wish I knew what the level cap was. I think it might be around 100, just based on the speed of levels and that some of the skills say lv 85 required.

I've been in beta for about a month now, but my computer doesn't seem to like it or something. I have to set my texture res to "really low", shadows to low, and the frame rate still drops into single digits. I can play HL2 with all the details cranked up, and get smooth fps, Lost Coast excluded :)
My rig is AMD 3200XP, 2 gig ram and Radeon 9800Pro 128 and can play just about anything with the settings pretty high (well, F.E.A.R. overheats my rig after about 20 minutes), so I'm thinking its an issue that a patch will fix up.
Loved Autoduel back in the day, like the idea of a car combat mmorpg, so have my fingers crossed.

I am in the beta, but have not played for nearly 4 months because it was so awful, and the devs would not listen to feedback, has it significantly changed since then?

That is the single most outragously funny thing I have EVER read. I have played since Beta and the game simply sucks hardcore asphalt. I am stunned that they think they can get a monthly fee for that crap.

Uncross them as this is NO Autoduel. Frankly, even though AD is old it STILL blows this game out of the water.

Would Full Auto sate our lust for car based combat?
