View Full Version : DJ Hero Is an Expensive Gig for Brits
http://evavhost.com/i/news/dj-hero.jpg
Activision have revealed the pricing for their upcoming game/peripheral combo and slapped an RRP of £108 on it. To put that in context Guitar Hero III with guitar cost around £60-£70 on release. The full Rock Band/GH World Tour set was around £150.
DJ Hero will be $120 when it's released in the United States. Which is pricey, but not unheard of. When it's released in the UK, however, it'll follow a precedent set by Rock Band in being ridiculously expensive.
The title - which will bundle the game and a plastic turntable controller - has a recommended retail price of £108. Which in American Dollars is a whopping $177.

There are children's toys that do a very similar thing for a quarter of the cost.

They can keep it at that price, bloody rip off.
Too fucking right. I wasn't interested to start with - no chance in hell now.

$120 in the states is far too expensive for something that's unproven. If they were smart, they'd knock the price to $80.

It's expensive, but the price compared to the US price is the same ratio as everyother game. You didn't really believe we wouldn't have to pay tax and the like for this game?

Here in Brazil it will probably be sold at aroung U$300~400
I don't know why people are complaining. Rock Band and Guitar Hero Full sets cost around U$450~550.

I can by Rock Band/Guitar Hero WT for less money today and get more peripherals. That means Four people can have a great time, their game entertains one and is more of a niche thing as not everybody wants to be a DJ!

This thing would have been huge in 1988.

This thing would have been huge in 1988. And you could combine it with Beat Box Hero DLC for the full effect.

If you figure the upcoming UK 17.5% VAT is built into the price, it would be more accurate to say it's the equivalent of selling it for $148 US dollars. Still too much, but a lot closer.

the upcoming UK 17.5% VATAnother reason not to adopt European taxation and economic models -- do they at least buy you dinner before that 17.5% ass-rape?

You're complaining about 17,5%?!?!?!?
Games (and most anything related to then) are taxed the same way GAMBLING is, at about 127%. Publishers/Developers and others take a huge hit in profits here. I guess they import it really cheap to pay less taxes, and then raise the prices at retail, because those 127% are import/making taxes, which are taxed only in the first step of production. Mind you, aditional taxes are claimed in retail, but less so. Some 5% extra.
Plus, you know, we get some neat stuff for all that tax. It's wrong time, wrong price for this. It won't flop but it won't come close to GH.

Mark my words, this game will go over like a turd in the punchbowl this Holiday on both sides of the Atlantic.

I've never been bought dinner before paying an 18% tax at a US gas pump, so I'd imagine it's the same over there.
