I didn't know The Hangover had taken in that much money.
The only movie on the list that I've seen is The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, which wasn't bad.
Finally made my contribution to Up, great movie. Wish I'd seen it in 3D though, looks like it'd have been fun.

Two movies will be opening this week that I've been waiting for. Michael Mann's crime epic Public Enemies is getting good reviews; and Moon will finally be released wider then the snooty LA-NY theaters.
Great to see Up, Star Trek and the Hangover doing so well. Of course Transformers is making trucks full of money, metal balls and all.

Went to see Transformers this weekend. I thought it was really good.
things I didn't like though:
Skidz and Mudflap (they just weren't needed)
Michael Bays cheesy moments (gag me with a spoon, why don't you!)
Optimus sounded so benevolent (I felt like he was talking down to me, didn't like that)
things i really liked:
Isabel Lucas (Is anyone else thinking she's hotter than Megan?)
Megan
The CG work was friggin off the wall. There were times I was literally blown away at what they're capable of nowadays.

And if you think that CGI is good... rumor going around is that the CGI work in Cameron's upcoming film Avatar is a whole level above what you find in Transformers. I trust Cameron to make a good film, so I'm looking forward to Avatar despite all the silly secrecy.

I thought M. Night Symamalalyama was making that? It was in the previews...
I will say that in the previews the Fire Nations' ships were fucking badass!

That is Avatar: The Last Airbender. Cameron's film is just called 'Avatar', due to the people putting themselves into some kind of alien robots to interact with the real aliens.

M. Night's movie will only be called "The Last Airbender" at that - I believe because the people working with Cameron on "Avatar" threatened litigation if they used "Avatar: The Last Airbender." Lame . . .

Wait, so they're both about the same Avatar character?

I saw Transformers and really liked it. I still want to see The Hangover as I think it looks great, and I want to see Up because its a Pixar movie, even though the trailers have all left me greatly unimpressed.
Oh, and I also really want to see Moon.

With actuals, Transformer 2 made 200.1 million over the 5-days. /conspiracytheorymode Obviously they funneled money from another universal picture into Transformers 2 so it was still tied for fastest to 200 million (but 3 million behind where The Dark Knight was after 5 days.) /conspiracytheorymode
Great take for it, doubt anyone had expectations so lofty.

That's pretty much covers all my problems with that movie, though I would've added a bit more hate for the twins.

After reading all of the bashing Transformers has gotten (especially the Topless Robot article linked), I am incredibly sad to see it making any money whatsoever. It's pretty obvious that Americans are too stupid or lazy to want a good story, and will instead just sit through two-and-a-half hours of shit blowing up. And yet, despite the universally bad reviews, the movie is raking in money hand over fist, almost guaranteeing another sequel.
No wonder almost every country on earth thinks we're just a bunch of dumb pigs.

Sadly it's making some serious money all over the world so it's not just Americans. Stupidity is alive and well worldwide :)
In related news, Hangover was a great movie.

I heard Trans 2 was offensively bad. The kind of thing that just makes you angry to have foisted upon you. I read some reviews and I read about all I needed to know. 'Course, I thought the first one was unmitigated garbage, so I guess I really already had my mind made up. Just impressed to hear that they somehow managed to make everything anyone hated about the first one WORSE.

I'm shocked that despite universally bad reviews that the public went to see it anyway. Even people I know who loved the first movie were saying they were going to take a pass on the second movie after reading the reviews.
I guess there is a big gap between saying, "I'm not going to go see it." and having the willpower to stay home on the weekend or go see something else.
Lord knows when I'm in the mood to get out of the house I know I will buy $25 - $50 worth of useless crap in a heartbeat, so I can't hold any hate in my heart for people who went to see Transformers 2. I'm sure they got more out of seeing that than that time I purchased Ultraviolet on DVD.

Over here the movie ticket is only $5 and I've wasted more money on stupider things before...
Still... I'm on the fence regarding seeing this movie or not, at the theaters at least.
I took my wife and son this weekend to see Transformers 2 and we loved the movie.
If you are able to turn off your brain and watch a bunch of giants robots beat the shit out of each other then you just might like it.

Some people aren't happy unless every movie is Shakespear, while the rest of us have no problems popping popcorn, relaxing, and just enjoying a fireworks display. Decide what camp you are in. As for me Once a year I enjoy just watching stuff blow up, it's therapeutic. I am looking forward to seeing Transformers 2, and Hangover, just as I enjoyed ID4 and other summer "blow stuff up" movies.

There is nothing wrong with robots beating the shit out of each other and one liners.

And in response to this.. again, it's a bunch of robots blowing shit up. It's Transformers ffs.
Lots of people (including me) couldn't give a damn about Rotten Tomatoes or what other critics say.
I think people need to learn to loosen up a bit. Movies are entertainment. Not all movies need to have a complicated plot and twists and turns to take the audience on a wild ride.
Popcorn fun ftw

It's a shame "popcorn fun" has been associated with completely mindless entertainment with no wit or brains. A movie doesn't need to have a complicated plot to be smart. I'd classify movies like Iron Man or Die Hard 1, 3, 4 as "popcorn fun" but they actually have wit to them too.

Took my son and girlfriend to see TF2 last weekend and we came out scratching our heads over the bad reviews. It did what it was supposed to do: entertain us.
If I didn't before, I now seriously question the criteria of movie reviewers.
